Meet Kanit` Dechkhum of K.D. Photography in Greenville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kanit` Dechkhum.

Kanit`, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
This is going to go way back to when I was a kid. My dad was a photographer. He was mostly self-taught. When I was little and he went to photography classes I would go with him so that I could translate it for him. The classes were in English and my dad only spoke Thai. The camera has been hanging on my neck since I was ten years old. That was at the times where we used 35 mm film. My dad was a product photographer. We never shot anything that moved. It was always static. I always wanted to capture the world around me. I just wanted to freeze the time. To me, photography is timeless. I believe in all and any photographer. Different styles, different types. As of today, My intention of being a photographer is I just want to do what I love to do. It seems like my ideas just keep going, they keep me happy. As a photographer, it means a lot to me when we are able to give the best results to our families or our clients whether it’s a free gig or paid gig. When you see people smile at themselves and ask, “Wow, is that me in the picture?” that is what keeps me going.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Struggle has been everywhere, nothing is smooth in the photography world. Your brain is in constant conflict of how to beat the last photo you mastered. It is easier now that the photos are digital if you don’t like the photo you just click delete and retake, fix it from the camera. You can’t always please everyone, but you always go above and beyond for everyone. Presenting your ideas aren’t always the smoothest.

Please tell us about K.D. Photography.
As a small business owner, I am proud to be a photographer, we specialize in portrait, environmental portrait, sports, weddings we shoot it all. I am set apart from others because of my motivation. I am so proud of the relationships that we have created with all of our clients. We become like family, not just a customer. We see them thru so many life events and we are proud to be a part of their lives and see what comes next for them.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
LOL, have less gear. Spend less money on gear, LOL, but all jokes aside I think I would say to learn more about social media. Learn what drives your business.
