Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenyon Henderson.
So, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
So technically, I guess I started in 1988 when I was born. Alright jokes aside, I really began to entertain the thought of turning my creativity into a business in 2015. I was living in Austin, Texas working for Apple corporate at the time, where I purchased my first DSLR camera. Strapped and loaded with an abundance of confidence through picture praise and likes through social media, I decided to take a leap of faith and go all in. I resigned from Apple, only eight months in, and booked a one-way ticket to South America with hopes of finding myself and truly discovering the career path that was more in line with a truer purpose. I knew for sure it wasn’t answering phones.
Re-assured and committed to never stepping foot back into a corporate environment, I returned to the states months later to take on the journey. Today, I have several returning clients who love and appreciate my creative vision paired along with my professionalism and attention to detail. Nigredo is a term used in alchemy and it represents the process of turning lead into gold. We take the same approach with the videos we create. Turning the clients’ ideas or concepts into something more valuable.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I would say it’s quite smooth once you make it out the storm. The storm consisted of being homeless, for months, living out of my 2003 Buick LeSabre (which I still own today) on two separate occasions. Financially I’ve had to borrow from friends and family to stay afloat at times. Also, battling an inner critic who loves to report the mistakes, but rarely mentions the good judgment in my successes was a task. Getting over your negative thinking is probably one of the most difficult challenges you could face.
Yup. I’m the guy who believes your thoughts and the way you react to different circumstances affects your experience and what you attract in life.
Please tell us about your work.
I’m a freelance cinematographer who creates engaging content for brands and businesses. My perspective and creative vision set me apart from anyone else. No two brains are wired the same, and this gives every individual a unique way of viewing the world.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
At the moment, I don’t have any regrets honestly, because everything that I’ve experienced has shaped me into the individual I am today. But when it comes to lessons, I’ve learned that consistency wins.
