Meet Krista Dusenberry of Makeup by Krista Ann in North Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Krista Dusenberry .

Krista , can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My dream to be a makeup artist started when I was a little girl. Growing up, I would always be the one to do my friends’ and sister’s makeup for all types of events. I remember watching my mother put on her makeup for hours every morning. I was always in awe, and I could not wait until I was old enough to play with makeup myself. I certainly have my mom to thank for my passion! My dad and bonus mom taught me to be strong and to set my standards high, pushing me to excel and apply myself to everything I tackled. My dad pushed me to go to college and I am so glad he did. Having my Bachelor’s degree in Business has really prepared me for running my own!

I launched my business about 6 years ago and finally went full time in October of 2016. I was working for Sephora and planning my own my wedding when I met Kathy, who runs the Springs Events Venue in Aubrey, Texas. She found out I was a makeup artist and asked for me to get her business cards. From there, I continued to build my business and met some fabulous friendors (vendors who become friends) along the way. Cortnie Dee Photography is one that stands out to me the most! She told me from the moment she met me that I need to be doing this full time. Cortnie has pushed me and helped me along the way to build my business. If it wasn’t for her or the support from my husband I would not be where I am today.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. When I first started my business, I was working full time and doing makeup on the side. There were weeks that I would work 40+ hours, then turn around and do bridals trials weekday nights and work weddings and clients on the weekends. Ironically, running a makeup business isn’t always glamorous, but it is so fulfilling. There have been times when I wanted to give up on this dream, but I’ve learned that hard work does pay off and it has got me to where I am today.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Makeup by Krista Ann – what should we know?
I am a makeup artist who specializes in a vast amount of makeup looks while offering both traditional and airbrush services. I would say I am most known for the alluring style of eyeshadow looks and the service my clients experience when they are in my chair. My clients are my world and I strive to ensure every client that sits in my chair is marveled with their unique look. I make it a point to only take on one wedding a day so my brides can have the utmost attention they deserve to ensure they are beautiful on their special day!

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
This could be such a long list! One of my biggest cheerleaders is my fabulous Husband. He has been there every step of the way and has helped me build my business. The poor guy knows more about makeup than he would like to admit. However, he does like to call himself my business manager.

One person that helped me jump start my career is Kathy McNaughton with The Springs Events Venue. She took a chance on me and pulled me into the wedding industry. Being on The Springs Events Vendor list has helped me excel and grow my business.

Cortnie Dee with Cortnie Dee Photography has been one of my biggest mentors. She took me under her wing and showed me the ropes on how to run a business. She helped me create my brand, logo, and even helped me with my website. Cortnie is one of my dearest friends and someone that I will forever cherish. She is the huge reason for the success of my business. I could not have done this without her!

My clients will forever be biggest role in the success of my business! My brides have helped me grow by referring me to their friends and for also being returning clients. I feel like I have one of the best jobs in the world!
