Meet Kristina Komorowski of Sweet Girl Farm in Forney

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristina Komorowski.

Kristina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I received a herbal remedy book while pregnant in 2009. At the time, I was eating a lot of packaged food and using commercially made skincare products. My skin was always lacking, my hair frizzy and my health fading. Determined to take my health back into my hands, I began making the recipes in the book.

I made everything from homemade shampoo and conditioner to teas for respiratory infections. I found that I really enjoyed herbs and flowers. This love for plants took me on a path to become a Master Gardener, Beginning Urban Farming Apprentice and Intern through Oregon State University and Herbalist. After gifting my handmade products to everyone over the years, I decided to try selling them. After selling them on a website for about a year, I was gifted the opportunity to be a vendor in a shop in Canton, Texas. The Picket Fence gave me the opportunity to grow locally and spread my wings. I now produce Apothecary-style wellness products and created a holistic skincare line. I help people of all ages get back to basics with their bodies.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’ve almost lost my humble little business a few times. One of the struggles being a small business owner is competing with larger-scale companies with more hands or machines to make the products or labels. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve mislabeled products due to the fatigue of being a mom!

We do have to remember that with every passion comes struggle. I adapt with the changes and try to stay afloat. It’s the only way I will survive.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Sweet Girl Farm – what should we know?
Sweet Girl Farm is based on the simple idea that wellness starts from the inside out. Every single product we put on our skin and in our bodies affects us on some level. I believe in limiting exposure to toxins, chemicals and fillers to avoid the strain on our organs.

I specialize in holistic skincare and wellness products that are safe for the whole family. What I am most proud of as a small business owner is the connection I make with my customers. The look in their eyes when I help their eczema or alleviate their pain is worth more than anything to me. My clients tell me they FEEL the love I put into my product and they are right, I add a lot of Love.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I have a fellowship of strong, encouraging friends and family behind me. Everyone I’ve met on this journey has been my cheerleader. When I paused my business due to a few obstacles in my life, my customers told me to keep pushing and encouraged me to get back to work.

My children are my #1 fans. They design logo’s, make their own products and tell me what to make next. My husband is my coach and confidant. He has encouraged me every step of the journey, helped me pay for supplies the first year of my business and is my right-hand-man.
