Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Draper.
Kyle, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Right out of college, I started interning at my church. That lead to almost ten years as a student pastor in Plano.
In 2013, I resigned from full-time ministry and started a roofing company with my dad and my brother. I ran the company and handled all sales and marketing. Since I had no idea what I was doing, I was forced to learn really fast and failed A LOT!
After two and a half years though, we’d grown the company to several million a year in sales, and it was and is still doing great. I realized that roofing wasn’t my thing… nobody really liked seeing me, a 6’3”, 300-pound guy climbing on their roof. Haha.
So I started a real estate technology business with a friend of mine. He built the website, and I sold them. Because there were a ton of companies that did what we did, I wanted to offer something different, come at it from a fresh angle… so, I assessed the industry and realized how bad Realtors were at social media.
I had a random idea that I should create a Facebook class (of which I knew little about at the time) and offer to teach it for free to earn credibility and come from a place of value. Well, I started teaching them, and they loved them. I started teaching more and more.
One day, I woke up and realized that I hated selling websites, but I loved teaching about social media. So in December of 2017, I fired myself as president of my own company, gave up my salary, and started coaching, teaching and speaking full-time.
The last 12 months have been crazy! It has taken off beyond what I could have imagined. I get to empower Realtors all over the country to leverage social media and more importantly, their story to stay top of mind and create value to those around them.
That has all lead to a launch of a new company that I launched just three weeks ago that is again, aimed at adding value to the real estate industry through technology, called EMPWR Media. That is pretty much it! 🙂
Has it been a smooth road?
Heck no! It’s been anything but smooth. I failed over and over again before I “got it right.” And even then, I still have so much room to grow, and so much more I want to accomplish.
But, the biggest struggle that rears its ugly head over and over again is just feeling inadequate. Not feeling good enough is a big struggle. It’s tough. I battle it almost daily. I work really hard to stay in a positive head space.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with EMWPR Media – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I have two businesses. All of my speaking and teaching falls under KyleDraper.com.
Within that, I teach from a bunch of curriculum I’ve created that includes social media, marketing, sales, leadership, and personal development. I also have EMPWR Media. Our main focus is on what we call the “Digital Real Estate Suite.”
This is a platform we designed to help Realtors (and any other entrepreneur/small business for that matter) take control of their digital footprint. So few businesses leverage reviews the way they should so we take it to a whole new level growing their presence on Google and their organic reach.
To my understanding, nobody is doing this in the real estate space. So I’m pretty excited about the potential we have to grow and serve a lot of Realtors.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like best is that you can do anything you want! DFW is a melting pot! I can take my wife downtown for a night out, but we can also chill in the suburbs and enjoy a quiet evening. There is always something for our kids to do as well, DFW is the best!
The only thing I don’t love about our city is the traffic. It’s pretty relentless at times and adds countless hours to my work days.
