Today we’d like to introduce you to Lane Beene.
Lane, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am Air Force officer with a side hustle real estate business. I started buying real estate after 9/11 and have matured to multifamily investing. I partner with other investors to purchase distressed property in good locations. My business mission is rebuild apartments, restore community and reward investors. My core values are: Think BIG, Love people through housing, 2nd mile effort. I love my USAF job but will be retiring soon and building my real estate business. My first project was a small apartment located on Camp Bowie Blvd in FTW. It was purchased in 2015 and was in distressed condition. Our team was successful rebuilding the property and I’m proud it was awarded property of the year 2017 by the AATC (apartment association Tarrant County) #1 out of 1450 apartment complexes.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Each day brings challenges and obstacles. But the popular book by Ryan Holiday, The Obstacle is the Way has been my approach. I believe your ability to overcome obstacles is the pathway to success and necessary to achievement. I anticipate challenges and try to apply the motto to all situations: TTISG (turn this into something great)
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about pilot properties – what should we know?
I am proud of our team and excited about each new project. We purchase distressed apartment buildings that are a neighborhood eyesore. We create a new vision for the property and restore community pride. We love people by supplying great housing and a restoring community. Residents move into our building because the units are best in the market. However, they stay because we go the 2nd mile to create a community of friends and neighborhoods. One of our core values is 2nd mile effort. I got this idea from an experienced business man that provided sage advice. He told me there was no traffic in the 2nd mile. I love this idea and know it to be true. Competition is fierce in the 1st mile, but there is no traffic in the 2nd mile. I challenge our staff to shatter standard methods of thinking and launch us into the 2nd mile of customer service, convenience, and value-add. We are different because we work harder after you move in to intentional impact our engagements with each tenant. We don’t always get it right and don’t have it all figured out but we pay attention and strive to get better.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Abundant mentality, aim high, think big, act boldy, open handed generosity, unconditional love, gratitude, and mindfulness.

There may not be any traffic in the 2nd mile, but it looks like Mr. Beene has already passed the competition in the first. Fantastic to see such integrity in the business world and a sincere desire to help others, not just help the bottom line… Best article I’ve read and will tell my friends!
