Lauren and Ashley, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We met while working at a 5 star day spa in Plano Texas, and discovered that we had the same dream to open a holistic health center where we could use many different healing modalities that aren’t normally available (or allowed) at regular spas. We have both studied Reiki, (energy healing) yoga, meditation, sage cleansing, sound healing, and medicinal use of essential oils. We desperately wanted to utilize ALL of our education/resources to help our clients heal, and working at a typical spa that simply wasn’t allowed or possible. We felt there was no choice but to open our own business if we were going to be able to do the thorough healing work that we want to do and feel called to do.
Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely, it has been a challenging road. Building a business from the ground up didn’t happen overnight. Going from working “for the man” and having a rigid but reliable schedule, to self-employment and a total fusion of work and personal life was a huge but incredibly rewarding transition. We will never go back! Another challenge that we constantly faced as massage therapists on our own in the world (with no front desk girls to weed out the weirdos) was sexual harassment from male clients. It became so intolerable and dangerous that we decided to become a “Women’s Only” business for both our own protection and that of our female clients. We want to create an environment where women feel safe to heal because we feel like safe places for women are very hard to find in our society. In today’s times women need a place to gather, heal, and feel safe.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Sage Roots Women’s Retreat & Spa story. Tell us more about the business.
We are a women’s only spa retreat. We offer therapeutic massage, energy healing, and spa services that are tailored to exactly the type of relaxing escape experience that you need. What sets us apart from other spas is that while we offer massage and spa services, We also offer spiritual services like Reiki and Past Life Regression that are not available anywhere else in town. We also host monthly New Moon Meditations & Full Moon Yoga to help connect the conscious community in Dallas and give us a place to gather and share wisdom and support.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The spa & alternative health industries are not going anywhere, They will only keep growing and expanding as more people discover natural ways to heal themselves and seek to address the roots of their health problems. The value of human touch and a personalized healing session is irreplaceable and invaluable. This is an industry as old as time and we will continue to use both ancient and modern methods for as long as people need healing.
