Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Yeager.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Lauren. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve been a licensed esthetician for nine years. I’ve worked in spas, resorts, salons, wax centers, and laser hair removal centers. What I can say is I was never truly passionate about it. It was more so a job that I had out of high school that paid decent. About two years ago, it all changed for me. My father, who is vegan, very much into, and very holistic minded had been sending me emails and text for years prior trying to wake up to what was really going on with the foods we eat and the products we use. As a young adult, whose interest was not there, I kind of blew it off. Up until about 2 years ago, something just clicked in my head. I wanted to learn. Once I dove into it there was no stopping. Organic and natural was the way to go. I slowly and am still working on changing my diet, but my skin care followed right away! I also had read a book from a lady in India that talked all about Ayurveda – aka holistic beauty. I started trying things for my skin that were right out of my kitchen. It amazed me because I started seeing results better than any other chemical or store bought product I had tried. It hooked me. At the time, I was working at a laser hair removal center and knew I wanted to own my own business. Plans went from laser hair removal center to 100% organic spa. Thus, being Organic My Skin. I can truly say I am passionate about my work now…maybe because it’s so raw and so real!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No smooth road at all lol. I think a lot of young people like myself in particular expect growth fast. I did know it was going to be difficult but not as difficult as its been. I sell a service, this takes trust. A lot of my business growth comes from word of mouth or good reviews. This takes time to build. I’m about 7 months in at my current location and I still have my ups and downs. Starting a business, I spend the money on my business and run specials to get clients in the door to try me out the profit is not there like you had hoped. It builds, and I am still building but I would say for sure you have to make whatever you do your passion because if this wasn’t I may have given up. How much easier is it to work for someone else and just have to show up and do your job? There have been times I have thought like this, BUT I wouldn’t change anything. When its busy and good it’s great, and I see so much potential in my business. Ultimately, I love being my own boss, doing things how I love them.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I specialize in 100% organic customized skincare and sugaring hair removal. I’d say what I’m most proud of and what sets me apart from others can be answered together. Not to down other spas by any means but there are some that claim to be organic or doing organic services but yet there are still some chemicals and preservatives in the product for good shelf life reasons. At Organic My Skin everything is 100% raw. I like to say “edible,” even though you may not love eating oils but you could lol! I don’t even have names for my facials. I don’t want to name them other than what they are. How much time do you want to spend and what are your goals is more my question. When you come in I will sit and talk with you to find out about you as a whole. I’m no nutritionist but I do like to know the diet my client has, the stress they intake, the exercise they do or don’t do, allergies. etc. Putting this all into consideration I customize each step of the facial. I say edible because I am applying raw fruits and veggies to the skin along with herbs, oils, and clays. It’s different but works! As for my hair removal, sugaring is very popular but not so much here in Dallas, Texas. Possibly one day it will become more prominent. It removes the hair with no chemicals. Doesn’t adhere to skin and damage skin unlike wax; and also destroys hair follicles more. Thus, creating slower growth. :). From waxing for 8 years to sugaring the past year, I’d try sugar any day over wax. Great for sensitive skin…which aren’t we all a bit sensitive when your hairs are getting yanked out! lol.
What were you like growing up?
Full of life. Center of attention but not intentionally. Class clown lol. Let’s say I was way more into social life than school work. With that being said, I was still and introvert and a bit shy. Crazy combination right lol. I was always into more artsy things, and as to say the same to this day, I liked to do things my way.
