Today we’d like to introduce you to laurie endsley.
laurie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Almost nine years ago, in 2009, my great friend Jamie Huffman, owner of Jamie Huffman Photography needed a second shooter for a wedding, I had received a Nikon D5000 as a Valentine’s Day gift from my Husband a few months before so I volunteered for the job. It paid $25 because I had no experience and I couldn’t guarantee a single image would turn out!
And that started my love affair with professional photography. In 2010, I opened shop photographing newborns, children, and families and I haven’t looked back. In 2014 we opened our newborn studio and branched out to include lifestyle sessions as well. I am so excited to see what will happen next!
Has it been a smooth road?
Oh, my goodness. My first year after taxes I made $26.07. That’s not a typo. Throw in three kids, bed rest with the last two and getting a Masters degree in the mix and it is a crazy road. But the best thing about my clients that we have grown and adapted together.
Many of them are close personal friends now that I talk to all the time, they have helped keep my business moving forward when it would have been so easy to stop!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Laurie Endsley Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
I photograph newborns, children, and families. Most of the time people come to see me because they like the feel of the sessions, the interaction we have in addition to the photographs and prints. I have recently begun getting a lot of request from clients and potential clients to be part of our stylized summers.
This is when we create special sessions that are heavily and perfectly propped. These are limited and a big deal because the sky is the limit on what we are able to do and we do it all, from camping to flamingos to mermaids in bathtubs!
I have also gotten a lot of great feedback on the new trend in newborns, which is lifestyle type sessions. I. Love. Them. I just think that the organic feels I capture in a little one’s nursery with their family is nothing short of magical.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I am hoping that the dark and moody trend is on its way out. I know I am going to be kicked out of many a photography forum for saying that, but I love bright and happy! I always have, I mean, my kitchen cabinets are turquoise!! Bring on the hot pink and happiness!
I love that lifestyle seems to be here to stay for a while, particularly newborn lifestyle and the inclusion of pets in newborns… forget about it. I hope that lasts forever.
