Today we’d like to introduce you to Leticia Herrera.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Leticia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am an International Mixed media artist residing in Frisco Texas, Born in Mexico City. My introduction to the art world began early in my life and later on I was inspired by my Uncle, famous Spanish painter Jose Morales.
I moved to the US to pursue my formal art education at LSU, earning a Bachelor in Fine Arts in 1992. After my degree I returned to my country and started working as a Creative Director in Avon Mexico during the day. But in the evening, I worked at my home studio as a freelance artist, trying to explore my own creativity.
As my artwork evolves to a more personal style, I discovered within myself a deep and strong sense of passion for the arts. In 1996 I decide to paint full time and abandons my career as a Creative Director and designer and pursues my career as a Professional visual Artist. Signing with a select group of artist under the instruction of the prestigious painter Santiago Carbonell. (Spanish painter). My first Museum Solo exhibition called “Intimate Closeness” (Museum “Regional de Queretaro” in Mexico) was a success and gave me the confidence I needed to really keep painting. And I was doing great but for personal and hard reasons I had to immigrate to the United States where it was really hard because I had to start from cero. Nobody knew anything about me as an artist, so I had to stop painting and get a job as a Tennis Coach, for many years I was a successful tennis coach in McKinney Texas but my art was not in the knowledge. I was still painting in the side and doing lots of commission work but it was not until a very close tragedy that I realize that I needed to be brave and start my painting career again.
So I immersed myself in my painting following the death of one of my closest friend, I thought if I had two months left on this earth (like my friend) what will I do…So I follow my dream and find a renewed sense of joy and inspiration for my life as an artist in the expression of my inner creativity. Ever since then I have been building my career as an established artist here in Frisco and McKinney TX, My art have been seeing in different art shows, New York, Mexico and is in many homes of art collectors.
Leaving in Frisco Texas open many doors for me, I found a huge welcoming from the art community and I appreciate it very much. Now I also worked for a non-profit organization called The Visual Arts Guild of Frisco as a Director of Development and I have had an immense joy helping other artists and the art community. This year has been great for me having presented my work in several important art shows, have had three awards and also have been selected in circle of the arts foundation as one of the international artists to look for in 2018. I am looking forward to next year.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road, having to immigrate form Mexico as a single mother, and start from zero a new life it was not easy. The fact that I could not follow my dream because of financial needs was hard. So my career as a painter had to wait. But I learned other things and I was very happy because I always felt welcomed and loved by the people of McKinney Texas and Frisco Texas.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Leticia Herrera Art – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My business is Leticia Herrera art, I specialized in visual arts and I am an artist, I also have an art retail business in the side and I am starting to design for Vida, but also as a big part of my job is the one that I do for a nonprofit organization call The Visual Arts Guilds of Frisco as the Director of Development. We are artist helping artist. I am very proud that now I can help artist and give back to the community that helped me as well.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I want to present my work internationally in Europe and South America. My plans for next year is to present my work In Spain and hopefully back in Mexico as well. Will see but I will be looking for opportunities. I am having a big Solo Art Exhibition in November8, 2018 in Frisco and that is huge for me. I am planning in keep working with this amazing group of woman that work for the Visual Arts Guild of Frisco, hoping to grow the arts community and hoping to help many visual artists.
