Meet Linda Lyons of Lyons Events in North Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Linda Lyons.

Linda, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am an event planner that specializes in full service wedding planning and design. I got started in this industry while in college. I worked for a various organizations that planned large scale events for the student body. It wasn’t until after graduation that I started to pursue wedding planning as a career. I worked full time as a corporate buyer for various retailers in the Dallas area while I worked on this side hustle. Finally, about three years ago, I left the corporate world to pursue event planning full time and haven’t looked back.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I wish I could say that it’s been smooth sailing. A big hurdle I faced in my early days was the decision to take the plunge to go full time. It was challenging to grow my business while still having a full time job. When I finally made the leap, I went through (and still go through) all the normal challenges of owning a small business.

Something I deal with on a near daily basis is educating potential clients on the value of hiring a wedding planner. While most other wedding vendors offer a tangible product – food, photos, dessert, etc… it’s hard to equate that tangible asset to someone starting their planning journey. Planners are there to honestly take a lot of the burden off of a very stressful (yet joyful!) time. We have done the research and can save couples a lot of time and energy by setting them on a clear path and helping them check off the necessary tasks leading up to their celebration. Plus, on an actual day, we execute it all and help them just enjoy their wedding – it goes by fast!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Lyons Events – what should we know?
I am a wedding planner that specializes in full-service event production and design services. One of the things that set me apart from other planning companies is that I do not offer just month-of or day-of coordination services. I prefer to be involved with my clients from as soon as they will have me!

There are so many details and changes that get made during the planning process that is involved early on helps me execute the wedding day to the best of my ability. Plus, it helps me ensure that all the design elements are cohesive across all details and events.

Also, I’m really efficient and pretty transparent. I try to add a sense of humor through this process, as I become super attached to my couples by the end of it. I’m pretty proud that I still call many clients dear friends and am honored when they invite me to celebrate beyond their weddings – from baby showers to new business ventures.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Oh, my goodness – I have so many people to thank for where I am in my career. All clients who have trusted me with their celebration. Any client who has referred me to other amazing couples. One client in particular truly took a leap of faith in me very early on. I can single-handed credit Sharmin, former bride, for being my biggest cheerleader, publicist, manager and helping me grow so quickly in my first couple of years. It’s been almost six years since her wedding, and she is still out there passing my name around her current network of friends. I have had the honor of celebrating her first born, AND her launching a new business during these years after her wedding.

Others that I have to credit are my vendors. I like to call them friendors. It’s a small group of vendors that understand the hustle and bustle of this industry, and their advice, support, and referrals are invaluable.
