Meet Madi and Micah May of May Media in North (Frisco)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Madi and Micah May.

Millions (maybe even billions) of people don’t like the way they look in pictures. It’s really unthinkable that so many beautiful, inspiring people feel like their pictures don’t reveal their true worth.

Madi and Micah both understand how frustrating it is to feel like your online presence or headshot doesn’t communicate what you want them to. That’s why they started May Media: so that any business owner or professional can feel proud of the way they look.

With her 15 years + of professional photography experience, Madi teamed up with her business-minded husband Micah and together, they’ve helped single-employee businesses and billion-dollar businesses stay relevant.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I mean, define “easy”. Both Micah and I love to grow so the challenges are welcome, but oh there are so many!

It can be hard to find a partner to do business—and a lot of life—with. One thing we are constantly grateful for is that we found a partner with each other for life AND in business, but it also means taking on some unique challenges such as:

We constantly question how to pick the activities that will leverage each other’s time and energy the best, or who will watch the kids while the other works, or how to balance family and work life.

Maybe our biggest struggle, however, is how much Micah thrives on routine and structure, and I thrive on the opposite. It means we need each other and are good for each other, but it also means we are continuously working to find the right amount of tension within those strengths.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the May Media story. Tell us more about the business.
If you’re a professional or business owner, chances are you worry about staying relevant online. May Media provides professional headshots that are also personal so that you can build trust instantly with your customers.

It’s easy to think that as long as you wear a suit or tie in an online headshot, people will take you seriously and you’ll get the results you want. The truth is, people do business with people they trust and trust is communicated in a picture when you are being your true self. We work very hard to create an atmosphere that sets you at ease and that allows you to portray the parts of your personality that will make other people say “I’d do business with that person!”

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
It’s easy to look at someone who’s happy or successful and assume luck is the reason. We have gone through ups and downs, even from the moment we met and I was scared to trust this guy who seemed too good to be true. I’ll admit we both feel extremely lucky/blessed with finding each other and so many other things we could never have planned if we had tried. But I think our overarching belief that has helped us is this: we work hard to be ready for whatever comes our way.

By “be ready”, I mean we cultivate things like confidence, laughter, quick thinking, stretching ourselves past what’s comfortable and taking risks in order to set ourselves up for success. Maybe the most important thing we do is to train our brains to look for the good. We try to remember that everything that is out of our control, even when it doesn’t look like it, is a gift IF we chose to look at it that way. When we do that, we aren’t living a life left to chance. We can always overcome whatever hurdle comes our way.
