Meet Makenzie Koehn of Heirloom Health

Today we’d like to introduce you to Makenzie Koehn.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Absolutely! I’m originally from Southwest Kansas, but I’ve called the Dallas area home for the past nine years. My own journey with chiropractic care began early after being diagnosed with scoliosis as an adolescent. Through postural challenges, sports injuries, and the everyday stressors of life, chiropractic care became a consistent part of my own wellness story and shaped the way I view health.

I’ve spent my entire career in service-based jobs and have always been passionate about helping others feel and function at their best. I’ve had the privilege of caring for patients as a medical assistant in internal medicine, training in an integrative healthcare practice, and ultimately discovering my calling as a prenatal and pediatric chiropractor. Watching families experience the impact that nervous system-focused care can have—from pregnancy through childhood and beyond—has been incredibly meaningful and continues to inspire me every day.

In 2025, I felt called to create a practice that reflected those values. With Prosper and Celina growing so quickly and welcoming so many young families, I saw an opportunity to provide a space where people could pursue a more holistic approach to health and healing. I founded Heirloom Health with the belief that true wellness is something that can be nurtured, shared, and passed down through generations. My hope is to help families not only feel better, but thrive and experience life more fully.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t know that anything of great value comes from ease. Heirloom Health is, in many ways, the result of adversity, personal hardships, and loss—and I’m genuinely grateful for those experiences because they shaped both me and the practice I’ve built.

The name Heirloom is a tribute to my sweet grandmother, who passed away two years ago. She owned her own small business for more than 40 years and was incredibly excited to watch me pursue the same dream. She taught me that success isn’t measured only by growth, but by the way you serve others—with resilience, humility, gratitude, and faith.

Like many small business owners, there have been challenges and moments of uncertainty along the way. Building a practice from the ground up takes patience, sacrifice, and a willingness to keep showing up even when the path isn’t clear. But every obstacle has reinforced why I started in the first place: to create a place where families feel seen, supported, and empowered in their health journey.

We’ve been impressed with Heirloom Health, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Heirloom Health is a family-centered chiropractic practice with a special focus on prenatal, postpartum, and pediatric care. Our mission is to help individuals and families build a strong foundation for lifelong wellness by supporting the health and function of the nervous system.

One of the things that sets our practice apart is our commitment to education. I believe patients deserve to understand what is happening in their bodies and why. A large part of my role is helping families connect the dots—whether that’s discussing movement and rehabilitation, exploring holistic approaches to health, or explaining how the nervous system influences the body’s ability to adapt and heal.

We also utilize advanced CLA INSiGHT scanning technology to gain a deeper understanding of nervous system function by measuring heart rate variability (HRV), muscle activity (EMG), and thermal patterns. The scans are safe for all ages, including children and expecting mothers, and help us create care plans that are tailored to each individual.

I have pursued extensive post-doctorate training in prenatal care, pediatric and family chiropractic, and dry needling, and I remain committed to lifelong learning so I can continue bringing the best possible care to the families I serve.

More than anything, I want people to begin viewing health through a proactive lens rather than a reactive one. Consistent wellness habits and nervous system care help create a body that is resilient, adaptable, and better equipped to navigate life’s challenges. At Heirloom Health, we believe the choices we make today can influence not only our own wellbeing, but the health of our children and future generations. That’s the heart of our brand and the legacy we hope to help families create.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most about Dallas—and Texas in general—is the people. It may sound like a cliché, but from the moment I moved here, I’ve always felt incredibly welcomed and supported. North Texans are genuine, hardworking, and quick to lend a helping hand. There’s a strong sense of community here, and I think people truly value building relationships and showing up for one another. As a small business owner, I’ve experienced that firsthand, and it’s something I don’t take for granted. It really does take a village.

As for what I like least? The traffic. I think that’s one thing we can all agree on, so I’ll just leave it at that!
