Meet Marc Tolson of Arrive Architecture Group in Bedford

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marc Tolson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Marc. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Our company started in 1998. My business partner and I were working for a sole proprietor in Fort Worth who died suddenly. He was older. We were able to purchase the small firm change the name and defined our focus. We have grown from 2 employees to 21. We began doing senior housing day one and have done over 10,000 living units for older adults. With the addition of multi-family, student housing and urban housing design we cover all areas of rental housing.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, we have worked very hard. The economy has gone through many ups and downs. Construction and architecture are always tied to economics. We survived the slow down after 911, over build of all of products and the great recession. Also, now going our 20th year have seen many of original clients retire so are constantly have to develop new ones.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are an architectural firm that does large scale housing projects. Our focus is on senior living, apartments and urban housing. We completed over 15,000 multi-family units including nearly 6,000 units of affordable housing. In the senior housing world, we do everything from for sale condominiums, independent living, assisted living to memory acre and skilled nursing.

Our focus on doing only housing sets us apart. We passionate about senior and passionate about housing. We are design oriented but value conscious. We never have had to advertise with 100% of our work coming via word of mouth. We are young and hard working and understand our client’s business.

What were you like growing up?
I was constantly creating. Drawings, building cites, and designing theme parks were my everyday activities. I really didn’t like school that much but I loved being a leader in whatever I did. I really worked hard at school, church and home to make the world a better place. I was overall pretty introverted unless I was doing something I love to do.
