Meet Marcus Gilmore of Thirty Thirty Media

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Gilmore.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Marcus. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
It began at 10 years old and that is where I began following in love with media. I was a camera operator from 10 -18 at my church and I grew so much from there. I am thankful for my mentor forgive me that opportunity.

I went off to college at the University of North Texas where I majored in Television, Film, and Radio. I was in college for about 6 years, let’s just say I lived and learned a lot in college. But in the tv program, I was a producer, camera operator and also had my own radio show on campus. During my last year of college, I had the opportunity to intern for Tom Joyner at his HQ office in Dallas. I took the opportunity and helped build their social media platforms and digital content that you can now see  on the Tom Joyner Foundation website

After college, I worked for the Tom Joyner Foundation as a Digital Content Manager but I wore a lot of hats and gained so much experience during my tenure there. I was also employed at NBC 5 DFW on the weekends.

During my time at both of those positions, I launched theculturesupplier.com as my first culture news website. It became the first arm of my company Thirty Thirty Media. I have since developed the event consulting component as well as the content production of TTMedia. I am currently living in New York doing an advertising fellowship and have been learning so much about the media and ad industry. I will be living here in NY for a little while longer as I continue to expand theculturesupplier.com.

I have a passion for film, music, sports, and of course my family. I am a thinker, someone who’s always being reflective of how I engage my consumers.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it has not. Like I said I was in school for six years and definitely went through times where I just wanted to give up. You know people say don’t look at someone else’s path because everyone’s journey is different. It was hard to see my friends graduating before me. But I brought this lesson on myself. So either I was going to push to the end and graduate or quit. And I am not a quitter so I push to the end.

There are moments when you are working on projects that you have to dial it back because your big creative may not be the best thing for that moment. That was a lesson for me so now when I come up with ideas I place them on the calendar. Sometimes things can happen right now if I have the capacity and other times I can archive for later.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Thirty Thirty Media story. Tell us more about the business.
Creative, Strategy, Deliver.

I am known for pushing the culture forward and connecting the right people at the right time. I specialize in content curation for media brands, campaign strategy, and event consulting/production. 2 of my proudest moments so far is the launch of #NationalGoalWritingDay and the Millennial Chef Showcase. These are two ideas that are going into their 3rd year and I just keep perfecting the formula and how I impact people with both of the campaign National Goal Writing Day and the event Millennial Chef Showcase.

What sets me apart is that I am self-aware of my capabilities that can have the most impact. Yes, of course, I could be doing a bunch of different things because I am talented. But I asked myself, what were 3 skills I obtain that align my purpose, passion and legacy; I have found that

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I do not believe in luck. I believe that my life has been designated and that no one can take that from me. So as long as I follow the path, avoid the pitfalls of people before me, take my lessons on the chin and wear the crown correctly everything will fall into place.
