Meet Marissa Geoffroy of Sherle Wagner International in Dallas Design District

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marissa Geoffroy.

Marissa, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Design and Sherle Wagner International have always been a part of my life, but I took a winding career path to get to where I am today.

The company was founded 75 years ago by my maternal grandparents. It is still a family company today, generations later. My early exposure to the worlds of design and art was thanks to Sherle Wagner International the company, and Sherle Wagner the man. My grandfather was an incredibly creative man, and a great supporter of the fine arts. Hours spent with him in the showroom, or wandering through the Metropolitan Museum of Art, sparked an interest that has only continued to grow throughout my life.

While art and design have always been a passion, they have not always been the center of my career. I graduated from Brown University with a degree in Philosophy and went on the NYU School of Law. I then practiced as a healthcare attorney for a few years, before the creative world sucked me back in. I moved to San Francisco and attended California College of the Arts, obtaining an MFA in Fine Art with a focus on painting and photography. It was during that time that I started contributing to the Sherle Wagner. Today, I continue my own practice as a fine artist while also serving as Sherle Wagner International’s Creative Director.

Has it been a smooth road?
Switching careers has its challenges, but I was lucky. I had the experience with and support of Sherle Wagner International from the beginning, and so I went in knowing more than I might have otherwise. Since then, I have continued to learn and am consistently inspired by the creativity and commitment to their craft of all members of the Sherle Wagner team, from design to manufacturing to marketing and sales.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Since its founding in 1945, Sherle Wagner International has been the premier source, world-wide, for luxury hardware and bath accessories. We design in-house and manufacture products at our own factory in Massachusetts. The continuity of family involvement, our pride in and passion for the company, and the old-world techniques employed by our artisans means that Sherle Wagner has maintained its place in the top tier of design from the beginning.

We offer a wide range of styles – from the intricate gold swan faucet for which we are famous, to the sleek and innovative mid-century designs that my grandfather himself crafted in the mid-1900s, to the most contemporary offerings. We also offer designers and clients a great deal of creative control; our products can be hand-plated in a wide range of metal finishes, including gold and platinum. And many of our designs feature the client’s choice of a range of semiprecious stones. Since we do our own manufacturing, we can also create entirely custom objects. And they are all stunning and the highest level of quality.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Sherle Wagner International was founded in New York and has since become known worldwide. We have showrooms across the US and internationally. Dallas was a natural choice for a Southern showroom. There is a creative energy to the city. Dallas is home to some of the top designers, as well as some of the top galleries and museums. The design world here appreciates history and tradition, but is also innovative, and not afraid of the avant-garde. That makes it a great fit for Sherle Wagner.
