Today we’d like to introduce you to Maritza Spainhouer.
Maritza started Stamina Wellness Center in 2013 in McKinney, Texas after spending 13 years as a stay-at-home mother and after deciding to change careers.
Maritza is also sight-impaired and decided to focus on a new career to accommodate her loss of vision, which is irreversible and progressive.
Maritza’s extra preceptory skills allows her to render a personalized and specialized whole-body massage therapy experience that her customers rave about. She is consistently rated 5 stars in her Glenbrook Customer response surveys.
Has it been a smooth road?
Maritza faced several obstacles to setting up her business. First was completing a State- required massage licensing school. Second, she had to pass a state mandated licensing exam. This was no easy task, since the testing agency would not give her accommodations for her loss of vision. She persisted and by working with the American Federation for the blind she was able to obtain the necessary accommodations to take the licensing test and successfully pass it.
Her next obstacle was setting up the business and getting it going. Despite the city of McKinney canceling its contract services for public transportation, Maritza was able to find transportation that would allow her to get to and from work. The business struggled at first but over a period of time with repeat customers, she has become a great success, despite the many obstacles she has had to face and endure.
So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the stamina Wellness Center story. Tell us more about the business.
Maritza owns and operates in downtown McKinney. She is a successful licensed massage therapist. She is also working on setting up an ancillary part to her business, that would offer additional services to special needs individuals, with her primary focus on high school to young adults.
Maritza plans to offer, a confidence building program, teaching high schoolers in young adults how to interact through a program called “Speechmasters.”
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The massage therapy and homebody 106 branch is consistently and constantly changing. This is why Maritza is setting up an ancillary part to her business.
Maritza is also considering chiropractic type services in the future, in an effort to broaden her skill set and services in the community.
