Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Hunn and Zach Lorenzini.
Matthew, Zach – please kick things off for us.
MDH Technologies has been providing managed IT services since 2003.
Our approach is unique in two respects. First, our business model is engineered so that we are rewarded when your technology is working well as opposed to profiting from misfortune. Second, we put a great emphasis on formal training and certification. Our company was founded by Matthew after he noticed a high demand for small business IT Support. He leveraged his military training, private sector experience and certification to start MDH Tech. Later, around 2014 Matthew met Zach Lorenzini owner of Zach Tech at the time. We partnered on a few projects and decided to merge the two entities after seeing the opportunity to grow and capitalize on each other’s expertise. Together we have reached many of their goals and continue to set new ones.
Has it been a smooth road?
When Matt first started MDH Technologies it was a huge gamble. Matt made many personal sacrifices along the way to start and grow the company. In his first year of business he could afford little more than a few servings of Ramen Noodles, lived in a cheap apartment in a rough part of town furnished with lawn furniture, a desk and a computer. The company started with a modest budget of $5k and had no money to outsource anything. As a result, Matthew had to learn some new skills to market and run the business as well as stay current in the IT industry. After several years of working 16- 20 hour days Matthew achieved a higher level of financial security and was able to build a business that generated steady revenue.
Zach started Zach Tech originally to provide IT support for Radiology and Oncology. This required Zach to go where the business was.
Sometimes Zach would get a phone call, get on Southwest.com and schedule a flight the very same day, jump on a plane and go. Sometimes Zach would spend several days or even a week out of town, living in hotels in unfamiliar places and having to adapt.
Income was sporadic. Sometimes Zach would get a good gig and be set for several weeks, but sometimes he would need to struggle to get by.
Zach was forced to move to Dallas, then Houston, then back to Dallas to find work.
MDH Tech would grow exponentially after Matt met Zach. Matt had a difficult time finding employees that were committed to the company so that his role could change some from working in the business to working on the business at times. The MDH Tech and Zach Tech merger enabled both Zach and Matt to build a larger company and contribute their skill sets to grow and manage a larger organization. Because Zach had a vested interest in the new company the two were able to market and add new customers, as well as new product and service offerings.
