Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Luckie.
Megan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started Park Bench Photography while living in Austin, but fully embraced being a business owner when my family moved to Dallas in 2013. At the time, I was focusing on families and honing my expertise in newborn photography. Now, newborn lifestyle photography is at the heart of my business and where I feel the most at home as a photographer. It’s an honor when families welcome me into their homes just days after they have welcomed a new baby into the family, and I truly love serving new parents, especially new moms. Building relationships with my clients is one of my favorite things about my job, and I look forward to helping more families in Dallas savor the early years of parenting.
Has it been a smooth road?
Along the way, I’ve overcome a huge amount of uncertainty and lack of confidence in ways that may seem counterintuitive. Embracing the fact that I don’t have all the answers allowed me to be humble enough to learn, be vulnerable and accept help. When I can find my identity in who I am, and, more importantly, who God says I am, instead of what I do (and what people think of what I do), I’m freer to take risks, try new things and enjoy the journey.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I hope my photographs speak to the moments in life where everything feels right in the world. For me, one of those moments happened on a breezy summer evening in Austin, sitting on a quiet park bench under a sprawling Texas oak tree. That night my husband proposed to me and the inspiration for Park Bench Photography was sparked.
In the years since specializing in maternity and in-home lifestyle, newborn photography has helped me learn how to make the photography experience as tailored as possible to new parents. This year, I started the Year One membership so parents can document their little one’s first year through photography. The membership includes four discounted sessions, membership perks, and one beautiful album to have and to hold at the end of that life-changing year.
I am also excited to be adding a client wardrobe and optional art consultations for all of my clients to ease the frustrations of “What do I wear to my session?” and “How should I display my photos?” I love being responsive to clients and helping them have the best experience possible.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Dallas has so many wonderful photographers and I love getting to know those who are new to our city. I know from experience that Dallas is a great place to raise a family, which certainly translates to it being a great place to be a family photographer.
