Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Perkins.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I graduated from Texas Christian University in May of 2018. As soon as I graduated, I followed the typical path every new graduate takes by scheduling and going to job interviews around DFW.
During that same time period, I started receiving a lot of referral work from friends I went to school with as well as former professors.
In a short amount of time, I found myself extremely busy trying to juggle interviewing while working on my design projects. After summer, I still had referrals coming in and at this point, my mom saw how hard I was working and asked me why I didn’t just open up my own design business.
I mean, she had a good point. So, I bought my domain, started designing my website and launched my business.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all, starting a new idea or venture will always lead you to some obstacles.
I went to school for strategic communications and at no point did I think about taking a business class. It just wasn’t something I was interested in at the time. Plus, I loathe those business suits, haha, they’re not for me.
However, every day I am constantly learning how to run a business, how to grow a business, and how to love what I’m building.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I run Sweet Daddy Designs, which is a branding and design studio based in Fort Worth, Texas.
I specialize in turning businesses into brands. Most people are often confused about what a brand is but I help my clients understand why it’s so important. Branding your business can help you tell your story, convert leads into sales, and create a loyal following.
As a company, I am most proud of positioning my clients in their market with branding that helps them stand out.
Sweet Daddy Designs in unlike other studios and agencies because we offer a 1 on 1 personalized experience.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment was having the courage to open up shop by myself.
In addition, I am also very proud that I got to work with the Mack, Jack, and McConaughey nonprofit in Austin.
That was cool too.
