Meet Mikala Horne of _MikalaTV_ in Arlington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mikala Horne.

Mikala, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Journalism is something that I’ve always wanted to do from when I was child. I would write stories over my family, stay up late and watch HBO Documentaries or any Documentary I could find covering World News, Biography’s or Crimes. I’ve just always had a passion for people and their stories and of course I’m naturally a curious person who will ask a question to your question. I started a news blog via Instagram called WealthyMag where I wrote mini articles on trending news topics, fashion and concerts! The blog was doing really good but l wanted to hop into a different path! My first opportunity was working with Dirty Glove Bastard, with help of my good friend Catrise and co host Toon who constantly encouraged me to just DO IT! We filmed it at Royal Lane Studios s/o to them because we definitely pulled some all nighters up there! I would say things didn’t start taking off until I did my first interview with Meg The Stallion, my industry friend Rahe Ballentine had been watching me in which he saw my potential and asked me to do the interview and after that I found my nitch in the Journalism World as MikalaTv! This journey…I can say has been a blessing, from the people I’ve met to the lessons I’ve learned, everyday I’m studying my craft and finding new ways to perfect it at my own pace!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I can honestly say the road hasn’t been smooth and that’s with any type of creative field. An obstacle that I’ve had to overcome is time management. I’m a young single mother working full-time and going to school full-time. Sometimes it feels like 24 hours isn’t enough to get everything done. But, my ambition and determination to succeed keep me going. I feel like if I can balance all of this, there is nothing I can’t do.

_MikalaTV_ – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My business is MikalaTV which is What I do my Freelance Journalism under. I specialize in interviews with up and coming artists, entrepreneurs, etc . I recently started hosting events as well, I did a Women’s Empowerment event and an Artist Showcase where I interviewed the Panels. I would say I Pretty much do everything in the media and interview anybody that’s pursuing their dream. I’m Known for my craft and my research that I do on the people that I interview. When you do an interview with me you’re guaranteed to leave with a smile, MikalaTV allows you to be yourself and to have a genuine conversation about yourself. I will say I’m mostly proud to see the people that I interview get the recognition they deserve and just knowing that I can give them a platform really means a lot to me.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
A proud moment in my career would have to be interviewing Meg The Stallion. She was super dope and at that time she was starting to get noticed but the world was still slightly sleeping. A year passed after the interview and I see her on every social site getting the recognition she deserved. Just seeing her grow as an artist and seeing me grow as a journalist it’s a beautiful thing.
