Today we’d like to introduce you to Minahil Nadeem.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My love for fashion and writing began at a really young age. For as long as I can remember, fashion has been a fun experiment for me. Coming up with outfits and pairing pieces together is one of my favorite things to do. Creating my own style is something that I have always been passionate about and has become a unique staple in my life. My style and how I present myself is really what makes me feel the most confident. Growing up as a Pakistani American, I had to get pretty creative to make outfits work and still dress by modest standards. I grew up surrounded by girls who dressed as they pleased and didn’t need to cover up as much as I did. For a long time, I felt as if I was preventing myself from embracing fashion because I felt like I couldn’t dress the way everyone else did. As I got older, I realized I could blend modest clothing with my own unique twist. I wanted to share this revelation so that other girls from similar backgrounds could know that they weren’t alone and don’t have to feel discouraged from being fashionable. I decided to merge my love for fashion and writing by creating a blog.
Blogging has been my creative outlet since I have been in college, where I share everything I love beyond just fashion. It is a space where I share lifestyle tips, beauty hacks, and everything in between. I named my blog Painted in Pastel because I live in colors and love brightness. Painted in Pastel has helped me connect with so many bloggers that I love and look up to and build a platform where I can inspire other girls to dress fashion forward and not feel like they have to conform to traditional trends.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I believe no road is a smooth one. If you are passionate about something, you will have setbacks but you have to keep moving forward and be hopeful. When I first started my blog, I was extremely nervous about what people would think of me, especially people that know me in real life. I did not want to be perceived as the girl who thinks she is above anyone else. After a few months of giving it a thought, I decided to just go ahead and put myself out there. Staying consistent has been the biggest struggle after starting my blog. It is difficult to be motivated when you don’t see the results you want, but as with anything in life, good things take time. So I am just taking it day by day and focusing on creating the best content for my followers.
Painted in Pastel – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My main accounts are my blog paintedinpastel.com and my Instagram, instagram.com/minahilnadeeem. I think my Instagram is best known for finding the cutest spots and murals in Dallas. I love finding a good Insta-worthy place and sharing it with my followers. My blog is more tailored to my personal favorite finds and a resource for fashion, lifestyle, and everything in between. My favorite part of this whole blogging journey is being able to inspire girls to be fashionable and not see dressing modestly in a negative light. I want to show everyone that you can truly wear whatever you want and make it your own.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is finding my passion and turning it into a career; I find that in blogging. Growing up, I would never have even considered the thought of social media being a career. Social media has become such a powerful tool and has given me so many opportunities. It truly has given me a space to be creative and connect with so many amazing people. I would love to continue doing this and make it my full-time job.
