Meet Morriesa Stokes of The BE Lounge Salon in Oak Cliff

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morriesa Stokes.

Morriesa, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Known as Reese to family and the Peacock Lady to others, was born and raised in Dallas, TX late 70’s. I am an only child raised in a 2 parent home. I was always inspired and encourage to do my best and never give up. Already a lover of music and fashion I started playing the piano at the age of 2 and took on the violin in the 6th grade. I’m a 3rd generation seamstress when my mom made me a dress I would make my cabbage patch and Barbie dolls the same outfit out of the scraps. I went into beauty school 1995 and also Dallas Baptist University majoring in communication.

I am a wife of 4 years , a mother of an 18 year old daughter, a grandmother of a 1 year old grandson, have 6 loving dogs, a salon owner of The BE Lounge Salon iradio personality, and owner of an online vintage boutique Gypsy Sanctuary a true unique creative. Loving all things beauty I took that drive and passion to another level. I left my corporate job to pursue my passion full time 2003 and have never looked back. I started off with nails (taught by my aunt the twin of my mom) then mastered all that I wanted to learn. You can see my work and clothing designs on album covers, WBNA players, on stages across the world, magazines and more. I am an Educator, platform Artist, Natural Hair Leader of Texas International Hair and Trade Show and was Director of Education for a high end Salon in Dallas I host pop up events to showcase my creative wardrobe and other local artist and boutiques. I love photographer, reading and dancing.

Reese the Peacock Stylist came about from my decor at my salon suite my favorite color is blue and I had a client bring me a picture that had a peacock and some beautiful words in it. so everyone start bringing me peacock decor… so me learning more about branding went from beautifully anticipated to Reese’s styles of elegance to Reese The Peacockstylist on Social media and it stuck with me and became my brand. Doing some research on peacocks I noticed that as people we love their beautiful feathers and I compared that to what we see and think about our image. Peacocks are very stubborn males not really secure and confident when they are around other peacocks. No one ever realizes this because they are so focused on the beautiful feathers. Then it hit me we almost work the same. We get so consumed about appearances that we forget about the inside. So many of us are not living (yes breathing) but dying in the inside. My job is my slogan for Reese’s Styles of Elegance “where your natural beauty is enhanced while your inner beauty is embraced”

I became a salon owner after being in other salons and salon suites for a couple of years and a blessing came upon me in April of 2017 and The BE Lounge was birthed in May 2017 (along with my grandson 🙂 ) Being in the business for over 20 years I have seen and heard a lot. I realized we lack education, motivation from the inside of the salon and also from the inside of our body and mind (that’s where it all starts).

Coming soon will be the School of Hard Knots Broadcasting. You will be able to catch me Reese The Peacock on air soon…

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Of course it has not been a smooth road. The road is always harder when you allow fear to take over. Knowing that you have the gift, the “it factor” but you are stuck in the past when people words have gotten stuck on you and you live your life believing what they shared. I have stayed in that zone for years. I would rather give the information away to see the next person succeed. Because all I know is how to self-sabotage and keep a smile. Being an entrepreneur you have to find balance with personal and business and sometimes you lack and that creates some struggles within itself.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The BE Lounge Salon story. Tell us more about the business.
