Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Foster.
Nicole, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started out like many cake artists do, as a mom baking cakes for her kids. Friends and family took notice, which began a steady stream of orders. Every cake I made inspired me to challenge myself, and each referral that came in seemed to fuel an obsession to learn and explore the medium of buttercream. After a few years, it was time to expand into a storefront, which we finally opened May of last year.
Today, my husband, JD, and I do the baking every morning. We had explored the idea of hiring out for the baking position, but we love working together so much that we decided to keep it for ourselves. And we have great time doing it! I have to say; this guy makes a mean cupcake! Our ultimate goal is to get him in here full-time eventually. Our dream is to run this place together someday.
The name, HoneyLove, is a nickname that my husband gave me several years ago. It only made sense that I would give it a name that I already love.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the biggest challenges was probably when the restaurant closed next door to us. We had only been open for about eight months before they went out of business, so it was a very sobering milestone for us because we had to bring in our own foot traffic at that point.
Please tell us about HoneyLove Cakery.
HoneyLove Cakery specializes in custom cakes for weddings, parties, and other events. We also have several other dessert options for walk-ins such as cupcakes, mini cakes, a variety of dessert jars, cake slices, cookies, and more.
We are quickly becoming known for our fresh baked homemade cookies in classic flavors like chocolate chip, peanut butter, and oatmeal raisin. Our cookie sandwiches are big enough for two!
We have dozens of cake flavors on our menu including flavors like Chocolate Cookie Butter Crunch, Reese’s Buckeye, Banana Split, Peanut Butter & Jelly, and so many more.
Personally, I am most proud of the fact that HoneyLove has given my family an opportunity to come together and work as a team. It has been such a wonderful experience for my family to have accomplished together. There is a family behind HoneyLove.
