Meet Nommo Diop of Industrial Maintaining Organization in Southwest Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nommo Diop.

Nommo, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born and raised in San Francisco, CA with two brothers and three sisters by our mother and father. I always loved to imagine and go on adventures in the San Francisco communities, I studied and created Art all through grade school and received a BA of Arts in General Studio practice at San Jose State University. After college, I had a plan on becoming a professional artist but became a San Francisco Firefighter so I could continue to study and create without having to survive off my artwork. After I realized I wanted to focus on the future of Africa and African people I studied Africa and the diaspora. I traveled to the continent several times and spent most of my off time raising a family and volunteering with non-profits organizations that help children and the communities in San Francisco, I decided to move to Dallas for economic reasons and to expand my art career after working the fire department for 23 years of service.

Since 2017 I have been working to become an Artist in Dallas/Fort Worth area. I have given a couple of Art Shows and participated in two Art Shows one in Dallas and one in Chicago. The most recent show I gave a paint party, I found helping people do art was a fun way to show my works and see how art is a communal and instructive way to explain the world. I plan to do more Paint Parties and take my ideas to the next level. I am exploring “The Doll Test” Mamie and Kenneth Clark study of self-esteem in African children. The aesthetic that African people are connected to tends to alter their ability for self-education through exposure to Africa.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have had a rough road, I had fears of failure, being able to understand the computer age that I experience over last thirty years, staying focused on my vision of the future, health issues, and family challenges.

Last year I became a business IMO is a model of a mindset, I been developing for over 40 years, I have over the years evolved and modified this conceptual world, Industrial Maintaining Organization is for people to work in love and for each other in a communal and equal and balanced society. I am known for my strong will and unrelenting belief system, I am ready to create an installation exhibit to experience this new land that I plan on introducing as the first of many here in the DFW.

A little terrorist, petty thief, and part-time lover.
