Today we’d like to introduce you to Officially Simone.
Hi Officially, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
When I was about 15 years old, I discovered I had a voice to sing. I was always into dance and track as a kid but I never knew about my gift to sing. I would always sing to myself in the house and practice in my room. But Nobody really knew I was working on my voice to one day show my talent lol. I grew up watching Beyonce perform, watching her music videos, and studying her music. I was a HUGE fan of her growing up. She actually inspired me to start singing more and working on-stage presence. Eventually, I started making YouTube videos of me covering upcoming artists like Karina passion and Dondria out of Dallas, Tx. These two girls were also a part of my inspiration to study music and cover songs on YouTube. Along with being a full-time dancer and track athlete I started to sing more and study big artists like Whitney Houston, Jazmine Sullivan, Lauryn Hill, Aaliyah, Beyonce, Ciara, and Rihanna. This is what really pushed me to become a great singer. I will always remember the first song I wrote called “patient “. I never released it but this song was the start of my music career. When I was in the 11th grade I started writing more and more and came out with my first single/music video called “Hunnids”. From there I started to put together an ep Titled “Simone Vol.1” which was later released after I granted high school. I haven’t gave up on my music since and I’m still recording and writing new music ’till this day. I have new music that will be released this year into 2022! I’m so excited for this new journey I’m on. On another note, my new single “Close To You” will be released on my birthday on 11/04/1997! So, get ready for some heat.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not. Music has been a gateway for me to escape a lot of pain I endured as a kid. When I was only 13 years old, I was in an abusive relationship for 3 years. I didn’t even understand what was happening at the time because I was so young.. It took a lot of energy away from me and I was only a child. Some days I would lock myself in a room and never come out for hours because of what I was going through. It was a very controlling/abusive situation where I had to either choose music or this person. I tried hard to make singing videos, dance, and watch my favorite performers but I was so down at the time it was nearly impossible. I went through a lot of abuse from 13-15years old that took a lot away from me. I knew if I just kept singing and doing what I loved to do it would make me feel better so that’s exactly what I did. Once I got out of that situation, of course, I had a lot of trauma and it affected for years. It’s definitely been a rocky roller coaster for me mentally because I had a lot of self-healing to do. I say that to say don’t ever give up on yourself due to bad circumstances because there’s always a way out. I believe music was my way out. Other than that, I’ve had a lot of losses, a lot of trauma, and life circumstances that has been in my way but I NEVER gave up. Even if I would fall time after time after time I always got back up and keep it pushing.
