Today we’d like to introduce you to Perry Brulotte.
Perry, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In 2011, while still living in Boston MA, I found that there was a lack of IT service providers that delivered value. Having had 25+ years in-field IT experience, I felt that I could apply that experience to deliver a value-based solution. XPERTEK IT was born.
We hit the road running with a half-dozen small clients, and as we grew over that first year we found that the Boston market had a great need, but unfortunately the economics of the region were in a slump and the confiscatory taxes and poor economy made me look for other markets. Coincidentally at that same time my wife was about to launch into her PhD program in Biology, and wanted to choose UT Southwestern as a place to complete her education.
We moved to Irving in June 2012, and I brought XPERTEK IT with me.
After a sort of ‘reboot’ of the company in this new market, we started gaining traction in late 2013, and by the end of 2016 had quintupled our revenue and went from a staff of one–me–to a staff of 4 in total.
We now service clients of 5-75 users, in the $2M-300M revenue range. Our specialty is managed IT services, and we also provide VoIP telephone services and IT solution consulting. We work primarily in the manufacturing, property development, and construction trades industries, but can service almost any type of business. Our clients range from insurance agencies, to law offices, to multinational manufacturing and distribution.
One of my biggest points of pride in the company is our rapid response. Both myself and our Operations Manager come from the east coast, where patience is not a virtue, and we both deliver the response time and support that we would expect, often exceeding our competitors by a factor of 3 or 4 in our speed of response. Our industry has an average response time in the neighborhood of 24 hours. Ours is just over 3 hours. We respond to 71% of our support inquiries within 45 minutes.
Additionally, I have maintained several of my New England clients after the move. We can deliver service nationally, although we focus on DFW. Our DFW area clients are geographically distributed from south Fort Worth, up to Justin, over to Van Alstyne, and down to south Dallas.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has had its bumps along the way. Moving 2,000 miles a year into business was a setback, but one we overcame. And learning which industry segments we worked best with also was. But we’ve overcome every hurdle.
One of our strengths is we don’t view ourselves as an outside provider to our clients. We get to know them, to build a close relationship, and become ‘part of the family’. That way we can act consultatively and always ensure we are looking out for what’s best for them.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I guess the first thing that comes to mind is when I was about 10 years old my dad bought two 1966 Mustang convertibles. Out of those two, we (meaning I held the light for him or helped hold parts or tools), restored them into one beautiful classic car. I’ve always had a soft spot for Mustangs since, although I have never owned one.
I did, because of my father though, become what some would call a ‘motorhead’ and auto enthusiast.
