Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Polk.
Chris, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started my business Polkfit in August of 2016. I always had a strong passion for fitness and helping people. Throughout college, people always said I was the go to guy when it comes to working out. I always engaged with others by Helping and challenging them. While playing college football I had a Personal Trainer that kept me in the best shape. While being trained, I was always given knowledge on how to better myself and think outside the box when it comes to certain exercises. After my football career was over, I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. All I knew was that I didn’t want to work for anyone. I had to have a talk with God to give me guidance to my purpose. Around August of 2016, God finally answered my prayers through my Dad. He had a talk with me and simply said “You should become a trainer. Your love for fitness and strong leadership characteristics would be great to show the world!” Training never crossed my mind because I wanted to pursue a professional career in football. I had to make a decision between continuing football or becoming a Personal Trainer. I chose to stick with training because I could make this a lifelong lifestyle. I started out with only one client which became one of my best clients I ever trained. She lost 60 total pounds in 7 months. After I witnessed her lose that much weight, I knew I had a gift. After I graduated from Texas A&M Commerce in May 2017, I came back to Dallas to continue building my brand. While starting out in Dallas, I had another job working for domino’s pizza. I absolutely hated working there knowing I need to be training full time. Throughout time, I was stressed out about not making time for what I really want to do. I continued to pray to God about how I should handle the situation and he told me to just trust him and have faith. I made a decision to step out on faith and quit Dominos to train full time. After I quit, my clientele sky rocketed from 5 to 15 total clients. God always comes at the right time no matter what you go through. Since then I’ve done Bootcamps, received more exposure from the Dallas area such as Design District, Medical District and Downtown Dallas. I thank God for the process he’s put me through cause without him this wouldn’t be possible.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has definitely been a rough road! When I first started training, I only had two shirts with my logo on it. I wanted to wear those same shirts because nobody knew who I was and what I was about. I now have a total of 8 different shirts made. I also remember a challenging time when I took my certification test. The test took me 6 attempts to finally pass. I knew that if I could pass the test I would be in a higher pedigree. A couple of months ago, I had a lot of weight on my shoulders and too much capacity in my space. With everything going on I needed to get away from the world to fully focus on myself and Polkfit. I put myself on a 25 day fast/cleanse which benefited me by gaining integrity and more faith. While on my cleanse, I became the official trainer of the Alta Strand apartments in the design district. Somewhere that I wanted to build my brand around. I felt fresh and relieved from a lot of stress from the world. I now have a new focus and drive for Polkfit! The struggles that God had put me through has molded me into the man I am today!
Polkfit – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Polkfit is a self-employed fitness brand. I specialize in wellness, personal and group training. I train both men and women of all ages and all sports. I’ve done Bootcamps, collabs and promos etc. What I’m most proud of is the impact I leave on people. You never know how much you leave your mark on someone until they see the transformation of their body. I now know that it’s no longer about me anymore, but more so about helping our society receive a healthier lifestyle in every aspect. What sets me apart from a lot of trainers are my integrity and my style of training. I always worry about how I can make myself and my clients better. I never try to lead my clients into the wrong direction of how they can better their health. People always told me I have a “unique” style of training. My logo has two meanings behind it. One is the scripture on the back of my shirt Luke 12:48 which states “To whom much is given much is required.” I had to make another meaning of Polkfit that could be Unique which is Perseverance Over Laziness Knowledgeable Fulfilling Innovative Transformations. I always make sure my clients always exceed what they think they can’t do which requires them doing exercises they’ve never done before. I know that Polkfit will be one of the best known fitness brands in the metroplex! I always try to do what others aren’t doing which makes me unique.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is always wanting more than the average. Never settling but to always out due yourself every time.
