Meet Phyllis Byrd Jenkins, CPC of Powerful Journey in Plano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Phyllis Byrd Jenkins, CPC.

Phyllis, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Have you ever experienced a wake-up call? You know- the kind that grabbed your attention and made you ask the question: Why am I here? What’s my true purpose in life? Well, that’s exactly what happened to me. Life was great! I have a happy marriage to my college sweetheart, two beautiful successful daughters, adorable grandchildren, a wonderful son-n- law and the joy of traveling with a speaking ministry. But then- life happened! I was admitted to the hospital diagnosed with a Pulmonary Embolism (blood clots in both my lungs). My doctor said, “Mrs. Jenkins, you are lucky. My patient with blood clots in the next room is not going to make it.”

Well, in my heart I knew that I was blessed! So after a five day stay in the hospital, I left with ‘Thanksgiving’ in my heart to God for saving my life. But I also walked away pondering the question, “God, why did you take her, but spared my life?” It was from that moment that I begin to seek my true purpose for being here on earth.

My answer came in the form of a non- profit organization & ministry called the ‘Powerful Journey.’

My purpose and mission is to empower women to Find their Voice. Focus on their Strengths & Flourish in their Life-Purpose.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Enthusiastic to launch the Powerful Journey Organization & Ministry, I quickly discovered that putting my ideas and plans on paper was just the beginning. I lacked the tools, tactics and resources of running a nonprofit organization. So, I flew to Atlanta to attend a Business Bootcamp hosted by my friend, Marshawn Evans Daniels. During the 2 day Bootcamp, I learned a wealth of information and left with a Playbook to give me great guidance. I was ‘Fired-up and Fueled-up’ to move forward, but I needed to say goodbye to an old friend named, ‘Procrastination.’ It had held me back long enough.

Then I heard the following definition of procrastination by Bishop Rosie O’Neal. She said God showed her that procrastination: “Is the behavioral by-product of a lack of understanding about the delay of an opportunity which is grace. It is the arrogant assumption that God owes you another chance to do tomorrow what He gave you a chance to do today.” Ouch! That definition helped me to eagerly kick procrastination right out of my life. One other challenge I faced was the discipline to stay focused. I found myself all over the place. I had visions of what I wanted to accomplish, but couldn’t do it all at once. I had to slow down, take a deep breath and intentionally F.O.C.U.S (Follow One Course Until Successful). Once I conquered this strategy, I was well on my to launch a successful organization that is making a difference in the lives of women across the globe.

The Powerful Journey Organization exists to Encourage, Equip and Instill confidence in women to courageously Step-Out, Stretch and Succeed in their life purpose. Many of the women have launched speaking careers and are getting paid while changing the lives of others. This class meets once a month and is taught in person, SKYPE, Private Coaching or as an online course. Upon the completion of this course, as a BONUS you’re invited to share your triumphant message at our Signature event: our Annual Women’s Conference held at the beautiful Hope Center in Plano, Texas- which attracts women from across the nation. You will be given a Vendor Booth to give out business cards, brochures and more to launch your speaking career.

Have you ever said, “One day, I’m going to write a book?” Wait no longer. In this value-packed 12 month course, you will become a Published Author with your book being sold on Amazon. This class meets once a month and is taught in person, SKYPE, Private Coaching, or as an online course. Upon the completion of this course, you will receive a certificate of completion. I’m SUPER EXCITED about giving back to the community by awarding our Annual Powerful Journey Scholarships: The Madian Chumbley Education Scholarship is awarded annually to a single mom of a special needs child to further her education to help make a better living for themselves and their families. We come alongside them to assure they are not forgotten. The goal of the Mildred Ida Byrd Pugh Education Scholarship is to make a difference in a student’s education by offering financial support towards their educational needs. This scholarship was created to assist graduating high school seniors to reach their goals of obtaining a higher education and pursue their aspirations.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In the next 5-10 years, I see an exceedingly vast amount of women stepping out of silence and coming into the realization that their Stories Really Do Matter. I see more women saying goodbye to being misplaced, misused and misguided. I see limitless amount of EnHERpreneurs™ being born, stepping into their rightful place and helping to make a positive impact on those around them.
