Meet Quyen Pham of A Lottle Eats in Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Quyen Pham.

Quyen, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m one happy and hearty eater who likes to experiment with food and sample new cuisines. There’s just so much delicious food out there, and it would be such a shame if we didn’t try it. Typically, while cooking up a feast for loved ones and making quite a mess in the kitchen, I often utilize my nutrition and food science education to test out new recipes or try to recreate a memorable dish I had had the pleasure of eating. Although I often took photos of all my food adventures in the kitchen and while dinning out, I didn’t really start posting and curating any of my photos on Instagram until 2016. My Taller Counterpart actually encouraged me to really start posting my photos more regularly on my Instagram account and he now has to wait very patiently for me to take food photos before we eat anything.

If you happen to visit my Instagram, you’ll find a rather eclectic mix of everything from hidden hole in the wall gems to fine dining and home cooked meals for a good variety of cultures. There’s really something for every palate, at every price point, and in many different cities. All my Instagram food photos are taken only with my cellphone since I like to challenge myself as a hobbyist photographer.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
While starting my food Instagram account has been a lot of fun and something that I do as a hobby, it definitely is not without its challenges. Instagram is oversaturated with food bloggers and content creators, so it’s pretty difficult to distinguish yourself from the food herd, build an authentic following, and naturally develop your own aesthetic identity. As I’m evolving as a food Instagrammer and meeting so many supportive fellow Instagram foodies, I’m really learning how to hone my photographic skills with minimal editing and staging.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
So A Lottle Eats is my Instagram handle and I am a food blogger/content creator. You may ask yourself, “What does ‘a lottle’ even mean?” Well, a lottle is like a little, but only a lot. Hence you get ‘A Lottle Eats,’ which basically means a lot of eats.

As an admirer of the finer details and a creative enthusiast, you may notice that my photos are full of rich colors and relatively close-up shots of food because I want people to really see the vibrancy and texture of all the ingredients in a dish. Whether I’m attending hosted social media events at restaurants or dining privately on my own dime, I strive to photographically portray everything I’ve had the pleasure of eating in an authentic and visually interesting manner. Being a self-taught graphic designer and hobbyist photographer also gives me a keen eye for creating unique and captivating content.

What were you like growing up?
Having grown up with a large extended family that loved to celebrate all the special occasions and milestones with epic home-cooked feasts, food has always been an integral part of my life. From learning to cook traditional Vietnamese dishes with my mom, to studying nutrition and food science in school, to working in for major food manufacturing companies, I strongly believe that food and food photography is simply a wonderful outlet to flex my creative muscles. At the very heart of me, I would describe myself as a creative soul with a dash of witticism, a pinch of snark, and a heaping serving of imagination.
