Meet Sandra Jones of Fresh From The Gardens in North Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandra Jones.

Award-winning chef, Chef Sandra Jones, has loved food for as long as she can remember. Her interest in preparing food grew out of a family tradition that covers many generations of gardening, home canning and cooking fresh organic meals from scratch — straight from the garden.

After preparing and canning hundreds of jars of fruits and vegetables, Sandra decided to share her many “creations” with friends, neighbors and corporate business associates, which has developed a long list of loyal followers. Since receiving her certification from Texas A&M, Chef Sandra has taught home canning classes throughout the Dallas Metroplex and has created many of her own custom recipes. Her passion for canning led to the start of her first business venture, Sandra’s Home Canning and Gifts which she operated for over ten years.

Chef Sandra also assisted in the creation and development of a small fine dining restaurant in Dallas, where she prepared an array of gourmet desserts, perfected a number of restaurant cooking techniques, and taught gourmet cooking classes. Chef Sandra also helped to manage the restaurant’s special events and catering services.

Then after 20 years, Chef Sandra decided to take the leap and left her corporate career to pursue her passion for creating dishes from fresh, organic ingredients. For Chef Sandra, becoming a Personal Chef was a very natural “next step.” She loves every aspect of food, from shopping for specialty and ethnic food ingredients, experimenting with new recipes from simple to complex, or creating her own. Becoming a Personal Chef has allowed Chef Sandra to use her culinary expertise, her “Southern Flair”, her love for entertaining, and her many years of healthy “scratch” cooking to launch her own personal chef business.

Chef Sandra isn’t stopping here; she is currently developing a line of garden fresh jams and jellies with aspirations of getting in front of the camera with her own TV show one day!

Has it been a smooth road?
Most entrepreneurs will tell you that there have been bumps in the road. I experienced finding the confidence to step out from the “safety net” of corporate life and into my dream. I also found it challenging to determine which business offerings to include. I knew that I wanted to be more than a traditional personal chef. From canning to gardening, to cooking, I had so much that I wanted to share and offer, so it was hard to decide. Through my business coach, which is definitely a must-have, I’ve learned to plan for each offering and take a phased approach to implementing each one in order to maximize its success.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Fresh From The Gardens – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Fresh from the Gardens is a personal, private chef company. We offer a unique variety of culinary services, prepared meal delivery, a customized private chef experience, interactive cooking classes, private dinner parties, canning and preserving classes, and much more. In all aspects of my business, we provide our clients with the “Fresh from the Gardens” approach which includes using the freshest ingredients. I am most proud of the fact that while I am a chef, I am also a gardener, canning expert, teacher, etc. and I am able to bring all of that experience to each of my clients and customers. Fresh from the Gardens not only uses the freshest ingredients but we leverage custom made flavors to infuse in our foods to provide a culinary experience like none other.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Dallas is a foodie’s playground and one of my favorite things to do is explore the variety of great restaurants here. There is such a variety of food; you can find whatever your heart or taste buds desire. Dallas is also a big sports city and we love our Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Stars, and Texas Rangers.

One of the things that I hope to see change in Dallas is accessibility to fresh produce. I have always grown up being able to eat, use, and enjoy fresh fruit and vegetables and would love if everyone regardless of socioeconomic status could have the same access that I enjoyed. If everyone has an opportunity to obtain fresh fruits and vegetables as well as receive recipes and cooking instruction on how to use them, we could eventually see these healthy habits result in a healthier generation.
