Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Franco.
Sarah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been doing flowers for 10 years now. When I was in college in Utah, I got a job at a flower shop because it seemed like a cute place to work. I had never really given much thought to flowers before then. But I fell in love quickly, and within a year became the manager of that shop. My desire to develop my design skills and floral knowledge just grew and grew, as well as my exposure to what was possible with flowers. Within a few years, I moved to Los Angeles and had the opportunity to work on incredible events- and that is when the floral world really opened up for me. Before that, I really didn’t grasp the full concept of the magic that flowers have to transform spaces and create truly breathtaking experiences for people. After a year in Los Angeles, I came to settle in Dallas and worked for several well-known and talented florists in the city. One of them was Something Pretty Floral. I had no idea when I started working at Something Pretty that a year and half later, the owner would approach me and ask me if I wanted to buy the business from her. I had thought about starting my own company before, but I had never considered that someone like me could buy a business. But it felt very aligned and I started the process. Nine months later, we finalized the sale, and I became a business owner! My entire career has felt very aligned and guided. I have been lead to exactly the right people and places that have taught me invaluable skills in business, management, and design. In a way, I feel like flowers chose me. I’m incredibly grateful to have stumbled upon work that I am so incredibly passionate about, and I can’t wait to see where life takes me next.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has been very much obscured from my view as I’ve walked down it. And I never thought when I moved here 6 years ago that I would now be a business owner. Things have felt difficult in the moment, but as I look back, I can see that everything was leading me to exactly where I needed to be. I only lived in Los Angeles for a year- and I didn’t want to leave. I loved the work I was doing there. But I was getting a divorce, and my ex-husband was moving to Dallas for work. We have a son, Oliver, together and I moved out here to Dallas so he could be close to his dad. I never imagined I would be in Dallas, but it has been absolutely incredible to me. Starting from scratch was tough, but also liberating in a way. I got to start fresh and build my life the way I wanted it to be. And I am so grateful. Being in Dallas has been absolutely wonderful and I’m so grateful for all the connections I’ve made here.
As you know, we’re big fans of Something Pretty Floral. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We provide beautifully designed florals for all of life’s most important moments. We exist to add beauty to the world; to bless people’s lives by celebrating, expressing, creating, sharing and embodying beauty— through the flowers, designs, spaces, connections, and moments we create.
We believe in the magic of flowers. The power they have to transform spaces and experiences. Flowers are symbols of life, love, and all the powerful emotions that give our existence meaning. We are grateful to play a part in the magic that happens when people connect and gather.
We believe in the power of intentional design. We are intentional about pouring love into every aspect of what we create and every interaction we have with clients, vendors and anyone we come into contact with. We know that makes all the difference.
We offer florals for any and all occasions- weddings, events, birthdays, anniversaries, sympathy- just to name a few. We love to bring the magic of flowers to the moments that make life meaningful.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is growing up in a big family. I am the youngest of 6 children and I always loved being able to play, explore and laugh with my siblings. I created a such a bond with them, particularly my brothers closest to me in age, that they could make me laugh like no one else. I have great memories of us just laughing and playfully teasing each other.
