Meet Spun of Dallas-Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Spun.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Spun started as a band in September of 2023. From day one, the intention behind the band was to just make music we weren’t hearing much anymore in music scenes, the radio, pop culture, etc.
We’ve been labeled a lot of different things from grunge to alternative, but we really try not to get caught up in the genre classification of things. We always just try and stick with the intention of “let’s make music we like and we would want to listen to,”
In 2024, we released our debut record, “Flesh,” which we felt solidified us as a true band entity, and not just some live band you see crowding up your local bar. We worked closely with our friends in the scene to produce the record, and the experience of getting to fully flesh out songs (pun not intended) was super cool and an experience we hold very dear to us.
As of the new year, we’re hard at work working on our second record, which we should be unveiling in the Summer time. We’ve been in and out of the studio since February of 2026 preparing something that we think the wider DFW scene, as well as others willing to listen, are really going to enjoy.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been the smoothest road at times, but a lot of those bumps became learning experiences for us as we grew into the band we are now, and we all expect that we’ll learn even more as we embark on the support of our second record.

The biggest thing for us was in 2025, we went through a lineup change which almost compromised our band, but the precedent of “let’s make this work so we can say we tried” prevailed, and we came out on the other side and stronger and better band.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Bottom line, we play music that we want to listen to and that we want to hear played. We’re most proud of the fact that we’ve never compromised that bottom line.
We could’ve easily decided later down the road to cater to what the wider scene enjoys, and a lot of DFW bands sometimes do that; cater to a popular sound or style for the sake of publicity or notoriety. Spun is solely what we want it to be, and I think that separates us quite a bit from the wider DFW scene.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
It’s only going to get bigger. We don’t see a whole lot totally changing aside from just the sheer size of scene. Eventually, it’s going to be hard to call anything “underground,” and I think that’ll be cool to see. Smaller/Local bands deserve a huge crowd who’s into their sound just as much as any other band.
