Stacey, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Who Am I…
I am follower of Christ.
I am a mother with a dream.
I resigned from a [14] year career with The Grand Prairie Police Department.
I am a [1] woman team building an empire.
I am proud of how far I have come.
I have learned my skeptics still watch.
I am lover of fashion + design.
I am thankful for my tribe.
I am thankful for all who believe in me.
February 2015 I was working multiple 16 hour shifts with The Grand Prairie Police Department when I felt the Holy Spirit lay on my heart to apply for my Tax ID and start a boutique. Prior to this I was not a boutique shopper nor did I really understand what it was since I wore a uniform to work and my days off I was playing ‘mom mode’ in a tee and leggings. Looking back though through the years of childhood I realized that I have always beatin’ to my own drum.
I juggled the boutique while working my full time shifts with GPPD for a little over a year and realized there had to be more to this in life. The constant routine of shift work and missing out on things with my family was heavy on my heart so I prayed a lot about this. After a 14 year career and just a few years from retirement I knew it was time to take that step of Faith. April 2016 I submitted my letter of resignation to The Chief of Police and the rest has been history. I sit before you today planning and designing my very own store front. I remember praying for the things I have now and the reality of being able execute these designs for my store is nothing short of a blessing.
The store is currently under construction with a grand opening scheduled for fall 2018.
When HIS plan is bigger than your dream…
This is God’s store and HE gets all the glory.
Has it been a smooth road?
I am self-taught and obviously coming from a 14 year career with law enforcement, everything is new to me. I do not have a college degree or any background education in business or marketing. I am thankful to say that I have not had any ‘major’ issues other than being small and in my living room. I am in my 4th year and people are still learning about me, so that has been something I have had to get creative on and brand myself to stand out.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the SMD Designs + Boutique story. Tell us more about the business.
I am most proud of how far I have come and doing so as a [1] woman team.
Branding is most important for a small business and I have done so with trying to offer unique finds and services, but most of all I would say being known for my Faith Collection. In this collection you will find faith bases tees, to custom handmade Bibles but most importantly is ‘The Prayer Requests’
In ‘The Prayer Requests’ one will discover the understanding Christ and learn of salvation. It also is open to learning more of HIM and HIS grace allowing for you to submit unspoken prayer requests. Each item selected is prayed over and I follow up with each request with a personal email to the recipient.
Boutique owners are the insiders to the fashion trends long before the general public. Women shop at boutiques to stand and not blend in front the mainstream stores.
In doing this I have learned to brand myself on building women up and offering style sessions. Each style session is catered to my client’s style, size, and event of their choice. It is one on one time to utilize the gifts + talent that God has given me to being out the inner confidence in each of my clients. (Clients range in age from 16-64 years of age including all body types and races)
I can provide looks from fierce and feminine to a laidback luxe or even casual offering the ease into simplicity for each of my clients.
I create my own style letting it be unique and identifiable to others.
