Meet Sukhwinder Dhaliwal of SumSara in Eastern Part of Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sukhwinder Dhaliwal.

Sukhwinder, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Our story is about love of design, creativity, heritage, craftsmanship and charity. We’re inspired by the historical times of Royal British Colonial era and particularly by a king named as Ranjit Singh. Not only his love for artists, craftsmen, artisans and their works but also his love for horses. He fought many wars for a legendary horse named as ‘Laili known for its superb beauty and grace. The Maharaja was known for his equestrian feats among French and British Generals. Our story is to celebrate our heritage of this era, love of horses and equestrian sports of the modern times. SumSara is for women who are passionate, ambitious and love freedom. Our inspiration and story is to celebrate feminine spirit, determined, confident and graceful in all that she does.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a very inspiring and exciting journey. It has been exciting to go through the process of creating something that celebrates freedom, ambition and passion. Not to say, we’ve had no challenges. Not much aware of the industry, we launched in New York without much research and preparation which turned out to be a great market test for our line. But we soon learnt the importance of a well-planned and well branded line. We’ve been researching on the industry, its trends, creating a well-founded brand and should be ready to relaunch in Dallas in the next 12 months.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about SumSara LLC – what should we know?
We are a luxury brand primarily focused on young professional women of ambition, tradition, individuality and self-expression, who love to travel around the world. We are inspired by ambitious, bold, and feminine design. We believe in quality, craftsmanship, heritage, tradition and cutting edge technology of modern times. We’re known for our signature office to evening black collection, screen and digitally printed day dresses, and our statement evening collection. We are proud that in depth customization based on extensive research on female body is incorporated in the collection. Our high levels of service and superior product quality sets us apart.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My husband Jagtar, my daughter Aman who graduated last year from the School of Journalism at Southern Methodist University, Dallas, TX; my son Kabir who is studying business at Southern Methodist University and my family from Toronto, Canada. Aman & Kabir have been the biggest cheerleaders of SumSara, its success and most specifically of their mom and her work. My family has been the biggest advocate for my work, and the importance of financial and creative freedom. And not to mention, many colleagues from the companies around the world and most specifically, all the artisans and craftsmen who spent hours and hours of work for SumSara’s success.
