Today we’d like to introduce you to The Black Rose Studio.
Hi The Black Rose Studio, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Co-owners Jerry Martinez and Alonzo Gonzales met in 2011. Alonzo went to the shop where Jerry worked looking to get tattooed. They talked and Alonzo mentioned he was interested in tattooing and Jerry made some suggestions on how to go about it. A year or so later they met again at Urbans Tattoo where Alonzo had began working and Jerry was looking for a new studio to work at. Eventually a friendship grew over the years and they decided to open a shop of their own. In 2017 The Black Rose Studio opened in Mansfield, TX.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like any new business it was a small operation in the beginning with only 4 of us. Mando Ozuna was our main artist besides us and we had an apprentice as well. We had no art on the walls, a few chairs, no front desk, and a Tv. Eventually we managed to grow with in a couple of years and expand but then Covid hit everyone pretty hard. We always had a good crew so we were able to weather the storm. Even through Covid we still grew and expanded our studio and eventually were able to own the location as well. Keeping up with the times and trends isn’t always easy but we manage to always adapt even with other shops around us.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We specialize and are known for Realism black and gray but we have other artists that do many other styles at our studio as well. We also do Fine Line, Anime, Lettering, American Traditional, Neo Traditional, Color Realism, Japanese Traditional, Chicano, Cover Ups, and Illustrative tattoos. We also offer full body piercing by Master piercer Russell Rasmussen. He has several APP certifications for advanced piercing. We carry high end jewelry from implant grade titanium to gold and silver. Our brands include Buddha, Anatometal, BVLA, Mushroom, and Invictus to name a few. Caring about the clients and their experience is just as important to us as the tattoo and piercing services we provide. We want everyone to feel at home when they visit us because it’s a family environment we have at the studio. Spending so many hours with clients it’s hard not to get to know them on a personal level and at times even create friendships. It makes coming to work every day a blast and we couldn’t do it without our supporters and clients. We take pride in giving our clients a memory they can enjoy for life. Thats what sets us apart.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
Some of our best friends and coworkers over the years have shaped this place by getting work done or spreading the word every chance they get about our studio. Mando Ozuna has been with us since day one and is still creating amazing pieces of art with us to this day! Our families of course! Most of all the clients are the ones who keep us going every year we greatly appreciate all of them. Without them we wouldn’t have such a great place to work.
