Thanks for sharing your story with us Tina. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Opened in 2012, Aphrodite’s Closet was created to offer intimates in regular and plus sizes. We expanded our inventory and services in 2013 to include bra fitting for the UK sizes AA-P with a focus on Polish brands.
Has it been a smooth road?
The biggest struggle we had in the beginning was financed, as we are a bootstrapping, self made company. As revenue increased, we invested those dollars in growing our inventory and improving the quality of our offerings. We also had a difficult time trying to find bra maker’s with a comprehensive band/cup size lineup that also focused on shape and fit. We also had to find suppliers who were small businesses like ours that had small business-friendly minimums and impeccable quality and workmanship.

We are a small brick and mortar establishment that offers intimates, sleep wear, foundations with a strong focus on bra fit assessments. We are committed to educating our clients about proper bra fit and not necessarily the size on the tag. Where there is a size limit at many boutiques and most department stores- we offer all sizes. We will order if the size is not in stock and we know that there are over 400 bra sizes and we do our best to ensure our clients get the sizes they need.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I think any location is a great place for a bra shop as long as they are willing to go the extra mile and find brands that are not offered in major retailers and boutiques with price points that complement a broad demographic. They also need to understand how a bra should fit vs. the skewed images we see in ads. The greatest challenge is finding affordable rent and keeping overhead costs at a minimum. You want to have ample stock, but not so much that you are inventory rich and cash poor.
