Today we’d like to introduce you to Liz Grow.
Liz, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In 2012 I discovered the healing powers of cannabis while living in San Francisco. I was suffering from depression and anxiety and didn’t want to get on the roller coaster of pharmaceuticals to get back to good, so my doctor prescribed cannabis. I was so nervous! I had never used cannabis in any other way than sneaking a puff here and there in college, and to be honest, I didn’t think it would do anything for me – boy was I in for an awakening! Cannabis not only healed my symptoms but provided the motivation that I needed at that time in my life to change my circumstances dramatically. I have been determined to spread the message to women ever since that time; there is a natural way to heal yourself and your family, do not be afraid. It’s only a plant!!
I moved back to Texas and realized that the stigma and fear surrounding cannabis was still as strong as ever, keeping women from a plant that can *TRULY* help them and their families. How could I reach these women without “outting” myself in a state where THC is still very much illegal? I struggled with this reality for a long long time. I was building a career in tech where alcohol, especially bourbon, was ever-present, but any mention of cannabis would have been caused for serious concern due to a lack of understanding, education, and negative stoner stereotypes that somehow still stick.
In 2018 I decided that I must be the change that I was seeking in my home state, and with the help of my husband Patrick, an award-winning film producer, we founded Grow House Media, a production company that creates uplifting, educational, and sometimes super silly content that helps to reshape the cannabis narrative for a mainstream audience with little exposure to cannabis as medicine – way beyond Cheech & Chong! We launched our first show, GROW HOUSE, on High Times TV in January 2019, and the response has been even more enthusiastic than we could have ever imagined! This industry is only getting hotter as more and more people discover the power of this plant – We now have six television projects in development have plans to launch a new Network, Grow House TV, later this year.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road didn’t exist for me. I had to machete my way through!
Nothing can stop me from spreading this message, and a global television network is where we believe we can reach the biggest audience. I had zero experience on camera or show running a television series, but I had total confidence in my mission – to help other women (and therefore, their families) live their best, healthiest, and most fulfilled lives with the help of this beautiful plant.
To think that we are building a Network still blows my mind, but I believe in my purpose and have faith in God that my work will continue, road bumps and all. That is my advice to you fellow ambitious female with Texas-sized dreams – You must believe in yourself and your purpose over everything else and get to work. There’s no other option, and nothing can stop you but you. Also, be kind to the people you who are supporting your dreams, even if they don’t understand them. Sister, believe me, they will 🙂
We’d love to hear more about Grow House Media.
Grow House Media is a production studio – in addition to creating our own media properties, we work with brands and platforms both inside and outside of the cannabis industry to create video content that tells a great story.
What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
There are so many nuggets of wisdom I’ve picked up along my journey, but if I had to choose one to share it would be to Be still and Listen- To your heart, to your instincts, and most certainly, to your customers or audience!
