Meet Vanessa Cervantes of Artes Communications in Garland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Cervantes.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Vanessa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Growing up my parents were self-employed, so entrepreneurship is all I’ve known. I always knew that I wanted to start my own business but it wasn’t until I reached high school that I found what I was truly passionate about, communications. My yearbook advisor encouraged me to look into the communications program at his alma mater and now mine, Sam Houston State University. I spent three years in college studying for my degree in Mass Communication, which then led to the start of my business. In 2019, I married the love of my life. Aaron “Blasé” Cervantes, a local hip-hip recording artist. We both shared the same passion, music! So we combined our skills and talents. I now am able to help small businesses grow and help local artists promote their content creatively.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I had many internal struggles, but fear was the main one. The fear of failing, the fear of not being good enough or not doing my best with what I had. In the end, God walked with me throughout those struggles and I was able to get back on track and keep moving forward!

Please tell us about Artes Communications.
My business consists of many things, especially since, over the years, I’ve picked up a few skills. I offer photography, social media marketing plans, advertising, marketing and public relations. I am most known for helping local artists push their music, design/plan a promotional strategy. In addition, I help a small business come up with a brand and strategy to help increase sales and promote their business.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I will never forget the late-night DJ sessions with my Dad. We’d spend hours in the garage, burning CDs, recording tags or just jamming out to his latest music finds. He’d teach me how to work his DJ set, maneuver the turntables and transition songs. I am truly passionate about music because of him and I look up to my parent’s joint effort in instilling a strong work ethic in me. They both worked very hard for their businesses, which inspired me to start mine!
