In this fast-paced modern world, everyone needs the entertainment to escape the humdrum of life. Think about it. There is no celebration in life which is complete without music, dancing and entertainment. While some of us keep ourselves and others entertained by being the performers like our talented singers, dancers, actors, musicians, others keep themselves entertained by being an awesome audience. I myself mainly belong to the former group. My interest and love towards music and dancing grew at a very young age. I was elected as the Cultural Festival Committee Head of the college, where my main responsibility was to organize, plan and coordinate a three-day annual cultural event. This opportunity made me realize my knack and interest in event organizing and management. I also learned drumming during college and performed with various bands across the city. My passion towards music, dance and event organizing was at its peak during my undergrad years.
Fast forward to 2007. I moved to the United States to pursue my career in IT. With this great new career in a new country came a lot of challenges. It took a few years to learn and settle to the new ways of life in the United States. Once I finally settled in Seattle, I started attending events, concerts and clubs in and around Seattle to learn and understand the event industry in US. I started socializing and networking with people who were prominent in the event business in Seattle. After moving and settling down in Dallas, I started materializing my plans and ideas of establishing my own events and entertainment company.
Finally comes the big day when years of my research, planning and learning came to fruition. My event organizing and management company – Topshot Events LLC was officially established in December 2018. Soon after we started planning for our big launch event. We aimed our launch event to be unique, elegant and a benchmark. We have organized 14 different Bollywood nights all with different themes to cater to the unique interests of the Dallas south Asian crowd. To name a few – All White Bollywood Latin Night, July 4th Dance and Dazzle, Beer and Musical Fest, Bollywood Masquerade Party, Bollywood Halloween Party, Friendsgiving Bollywood Night, Stand-up comedy with Bollywood afterparty, the Vegas-style Bollywood NYE party, Holi Glow Party and so on. With the variety of Bollywood events, we aim to bring the communities together and enhance cultural growth in Dallas. Besides the fun Bollywood nights organized and executed solely by Topshot Events, we also collaborated with other prominent event and entertainment companies in Dallas for some of the biggest Bollywood concerts of 2019.
During my first year in event industry, I have realized my and my team’s potential to take up new challenges and expand into new areas of events and entertainment. Apart from Bollywood DJ nights, we plan to host live EDM, hip-hop, Latin and fusion DJ nights with a variety of fun new themes. In the starting of the year 2020, we also successfully established our sister brands- ComedyFizz and Topshot.life.
ComedyFizz will bring live stand-up comedy shows at different venues in DFW and beyond. Each show will host a perfect combination of comedians from different levels of expertise and different backgrounds to cater to the diverse audience of DFW. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have not been able to organize any TopShot Events and ComedyFizz events since March 2020.
The reach and love from the audience in the US-inspired me to introduce TopShotLife platform. During the live events and concerts, I witnessed so many local artists struggle and suffer greatly to gain exposure and opportunities to grow. There are so many talented artists and creators who need to be heard and recognized on a global scale. So, I decided to build a reliable platform that will surpass their desire for exposure, collaborations and resources needed to break into the limelight. I believe that talent has no boundaries and every talented artist should be heard. TopShotLife brand is a collection of the tools and resources artists need to become major players in their respective fields, ranging from video production, collaborations, digital marketing and content strategy.
Under the TopShotLife Record Label, we have released “Nightmare – by Vamsi Kalakuntla,” “Cute Smile by Nitin Kumar,” “Instagram Model 2.0 by Vamsi Kalakuntla” and “Kangna by Rishabh Chaturvedi.” All of the music videos have gained more than 1-3 million views on YouTube. We are continuously signing with new talented artists from India and the USA to bring diverse and quality music for the masses.
Consistent hard work, passion and dedicated team effort has brought us so far. Currently, my team includes Neha Tandon as the Creative Director and Manish Shirsikar as the VP of Sales and Operations. As we progress, we will expand our locations and staff to cater to a wider audience under TopShot Events and Comedy Fizz. And give more opportunities to talented singers, actors, musicians in the music industry on a global scale.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No goals or success is achieved without struggles. With TopShot Events, our main struggle was brand awareness and getting a customer base in Dallas. A lot of big cities in the USA with the south Asian population have established Bollywood/Indian music events and clubs. We wanted to establish a highly elegant and go-to name for Bollywood/Indian music events for the culturally diverse crowd in Dallas and to bring these cultures together. In 2018, when we started, we had to suffer loss in our first three events. We ensure quality, variety and safety at our events and hence we never compromise on our budget.
Our plan was to expand our events into other genres of music in 2020, like Latin, Hip-hop and EDM. COVID-19 pandemic has been the biggest block in our progress, which we know is true of all small businesses. With TopShotLife, which is a record label company, our first challenge was to discover fresh and raw talent and to bring together talents from different backgrounds. The music industry is very fast-paced and challenging. It is difficult to keep up with the challenges and to establish our brand name in this wide industry, but nothing is impossible.

We have released four music videos, and we are very delighted by the love and support showed by our followers and fans from India and all over the world. We have average of 2.3 million views on our music videos. What’s sets us apart from most other record label companies is we give opportunities and platform to fresh and raw talent and to help them achieve success and limelight at a global level. Ethics are very important to us in our business and we strive to assist our artists in protecting their intellectual property rights and in delivering excellent quality content.
ComedyFizz: Comedy Fizz is a platform that brings together all the Stand-up comedians of the DFW metroplex and beyond. This platform is open to all from novice to expert stand-up comedians, who are passionate about making people laugh. Comedy Fizz aims to put together just the right blend of 4-5 comedians at our Stand-up Comedy shows across town. Because we believe there can be no better service than making people laugh. Due to the pandemic, we were not able to launch our first show but hoping to launch ComedyFizz as soon as its safe to host indoor events.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Since childhood, I have loved music and dancing. I remember the joy on my mother’s face when I used to dance in front of her. I loved to see my mom, so happy and entertained. I guess this is the best memory of my life, which connects me at a deeper level with music and entertainment.
