Meet Violet O’Hara

Today we’d like to introduce you to Violet O’Hara.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Violet. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My path back to the spotlight began at the age of 32 when I was cast as the emcee for a Breast Cancer Fundraiser in Deep Ellum. I’d never hosted an event before, but had stage experience from a young age in show choirs and musical productions. Holding the energy of an audience enticed me and I was hooked from my first taste. From there, I was able to build my resume through word of mouth and other producers seeing me perform. I added stand-up comedy and singing to my repertoire over the years to add some depth to my performances and have enjoyed building on those skills. Creating parody songs is one of my signature talents, and I enjoy creating silly songs as an avenue to engage the audience to spontaneously sing along during a show. This year marks my ten-year anniversary and I’m proud to say that I’ve performed in over 230 shows with 70 different production companies. These productions include festivals and conventions, benefits and fundraising galas, fashion shows, burlesque, and variety shows, pageants, car shows, spoken word events, and art gallery receptions.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Over the years, I have faced challenges of juggling my corporate day job with my creative profession, but I’m blessed to have found a balance that works for me. My co-workers are very supportive and many have even come out to support me at various shows.

What do you do? What do you specialize in?
I believe what sets me apart from others is my contagious energy, professionalism, and passion for enhancing every production that I am cast in. I take my work very seriously and strive to grow with each performance.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Winning the award for ‘Most Comedic Performance’ at a festival in 2014 is among my proudest moments. The award was voted on by peers and it meant a great deal to me to be recognized by them in such a big way.
