Today we’d like to introduce you to Will Chilton.
Will, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Apple Moving DFW, opened on October 31, 1993. I received my degree from Texas Tech University in 1991 with a major in Corporate Fitness, with minors in nutrition, marketing and business. I was the Area Manager for a health club in Austin Texas, but did not like working for others. I am sure I got this trait from my father and grandfather who both were self-employed…they both owned Moving Companies. I started moving furniture at age 11 and worked every weekend and holiday break until I went to college. I never envisioned owning my own!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been very smooth, but just like every company, it fluctuates with the economy. I did learn how to treat others from my father, in a very opposite way. Unlike my father, I treat my staff like family, the fact that we have not lost a mover in over 9 years, and Mindy and Deb have been with me 11 and 10 years respectively. So in that way it has been smooth.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Winning the Consumer Choice Award 8 years in a row, as well as, being a 4 time finalist in D Magazine for best moving company in DFW.
