Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Aceto.
Amy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
After designing swimwear in the fashion industry in Los Angeles for 20 years, I was seeking a new platform to express my creativity and style. I have always been passionate about interior design and after learning that my favorite candle from a major candle company was no longer being made, I decided I wanted to learn how to make candles and re-create the scent I couldn’t get anymore. I took a class at a local candle supply company and started making candles. It was really a hobby at first and then people started to ask if they could buy them and in 2016 Cera Soy Candles was born. My family has Italian heritage and Cera means wax in Italian. I spent a lot of time finding the perfect formula for my candles. I use only the highest quality wax and fragrance oil that are also organic and chemical-free. I moved to Fort Worth in 2020 when the pandemic hit to be near my twin sister who has been living in FW for several years now. During that time, I re-branded Cera Soy Candles. My aesthetic is clean and modern. Simplicity. I tend to make more earthy/gender-neutral scents in my collections. I don’t want my candles to fight the aesthetic of someone’s home. It should just be a mood enhancer and a simple pleasure in someone’s day. I currently sell my candles at local vendor events here in FW and the DFW area. I am starting to sell more wholesale and would eventually hope to be in lots of boutiques.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As a small business, there will always be obstacles along the way, funding, etc. Since the pandemic, it has been a struggle to get my supplies and now offer a variety of vessels depending on what is available to me.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have always been very independent and a bit of an entrepreneur. I need to have a creative outlet and use my candle collection in that capacity. I try to find/create scents that may be different from everyone else. Unique. I am known for making more earthy/gender-neutral scents. It’s a great feeling to have someone tell you they love your work.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I have recently started collaborating with a few boutiques/small businesses in making signature scents for them. Feedback on what scents people like and what is selling. support is really just finding locations where my clientele are and having repeat customers. Word of mouth is a great support for me too.
