Today we’d like to introduce you to Austin Tindle.
Hi Austin, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I came to Dallas on a full academic scholarship at UTD for electrical engineering. During my senior year I got cast as Romeo in my first professional production. That’s when I decided to change majors and pursue acting. I spent 8 years performing with Shakespeare Dallas and other local theaters while maintaining a day job as the programs and office manager for the advisory board for Booker t Washington high School for the performing and visual arts. Eventually I was able to get agency representation and I’m now currently represented by the Kim Dawson agency. Having an agent got my foot in the door with Funimation studios and I spent a couple years doing small bit parts before I was eventually cast as alzac connell in fairy tail. The director, Tyler Walker, cast me in my first lead after that in a show called ‘is this a zombie?’ over the next several years I was able to land more large rolls mostly from building relationships with new directors. The show I’m probably most known for is called Tokyo ghoul. I play a character named Ken Kaneki. Last year was the 10th anniversary of that show. I have been in over 300 animes which has allowed me the opportunity to be invited to make appearances at popculture conventions all over the world. It was a long journey and I’m incredibly grateful for the support and recognition from the fans that continue to support and appreciate the work I’ve done. The show that I’m currently most excited about is windbreaker, I played the main character named haruka Sakura.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I had a lot of ups and downs throughout my career. When I made the decision to become a full-time actor I quit my day job and moved into my girlfriend’s van. There were many months of sleeping in YMCA parking lots or on friends couches before I was eventually able to make enough money to get my own apartment again.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an English dub anime voice actor. That is what I’m most known for. Although I am still pursuing an on camera career. I’ve had the chance to be in a few independent film projects but maybe my most significant on camera roll was getting cast in a Poo-Pourri commercial. You can still find the commercial on YouTube if you search for “I feel like I’m pooping in a beautiful meadow. I’m also still involved in theater when I can find the time. I’ve had the privilege of getting to work on two shows in the last couple years with Fair Assembly run my Emily Ernst. Fair assembly is an amazing Shakespeare company And I’m very proud to have gotten to work with them. We are currently in talks about putting on a production of Taming of the Shrew in 2027, but specific dates are still to be determined. The character Petruchio in Taming is one that I have wanted to play for a long time and I’m very excited for the opportunity.
