Rising Stars: Meet Cortney Marshall of Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cortney Marshall.

Hi Cortney, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Our story began in 2020, during the height of the pandemic lockdown. Both Kyli and I (Cortney) had started our own small businesses—she was making beautiful stone-wrapped jewelry, and I was selling vintage finds. I reached out to her on Instagram to ask for help getting into a local market… little did I know, she had just started doing markets herself!

We met for lunch, shared our dreams and goals, and instantly clicked. That day, both our friendship and the beginnings of Roadrunner Stop were born—and the rest is history.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road hasn’t always been smooth, but it hasn’t been too rocky either—just the usual path of learning lessons along the way. Kyli and I (Cortney) poured everything into this business from day one. We worked every weekend doing markets, hauling our setups in and out of our first little shop in the River District of Fort Worth.

Those outdoor markets were wild—wind, rain, Texas heat, and freezing cold—you name it, we worked through it. But we stuck it out, weekend after weekend, and that’s how we built our business and became rooted in the heart of Fort Worth.

Those markets still mean so much to us. Anyone who’s done the market grind knows it’s no joke—but that hustle shaped us. I truly believe that work ethic is what’s helped make us successful today.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We like to say that we specialize in happiness—minus the cheesy vibes. Kyli and I are both naturally good at curating things that are bright, bold, funny, and a little unexpected. We love pieces that spark joy, make you laugh, or just make you feel a little more you.

People have told us our store feels like a mix between Spencer’s and Earthbound, which honestly cracks us up—but we’ll take it! We’re proud to say there’s truly nothing else like Roadrunner Stop.

At the end of the day, we’re all about spreading joy. We believe giving gifts is one of the most meaningful things we do as humans, and it’s an honor to be part of that experience for people. Roadrunner Stop is a gift shop for good vibes, happy hearts, and people who love to laugh.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Kyli and I both grew up in places that really shaped who we are—and we love how different those places were. Kyli is a true desert girl. She grew up in a tiny town in New Mexico with her grandparents—we’re talking eight kids in her graduating class, no Wi-Fi, and having to drive hours just to get into town. She’s outdoorsy, connected to nature, and has a deep love for the Southwest.

I, on the other hand, grew up on the Texas coast in Corpus Christi. Being a saltwater kid definitely shaped me. I’ve always loved being outside, soaking up the sun, and living that chill beach-town life. Growing up in Corpus meant being surrounded by bold, vibrant colors, rich Mexican culture, and that unique blend of coastal and cultural flavor you can only find in South Texas. It’s in my blood, and it shows up in everything I love—from design to how I connect with people.

We both bring a little piece of our hometowns into Roadrunner Stop—from the laid-back beachy vibes to desert-inspired colors and designs. It’s part of what makes our shop feel so personal and fun. Everything we choose—whether it’s a funny card, a bold accessory, or a quirky gift—comes from that blend of backgrounds and a shared love for things that feel authentic, vibrant, and joyful
