Today we’d like to introduce you to Eman Mulumba.
Hi Eman, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m a Dallas native that grew up playing sports. Football was the first thing I ever loved. I held it on a pedestal I thought would never fall. I was blessed with the opportunity to go to college as a student-athlete at McMurry University in Abilene, Texas. My circumstances changed in 2017 when I was dismissed from school on drug distribution charges. I was unable to finish my degree and lost all opportunity to play professionally.
My world completely shifted. Being a student-athlete was all I knew. In the midst of disaster, I had a vision from the Lord showed me starting my own fashion brand and become a designer. At that very moment, He gave me the name “Born Again.” I had always been into clothes and styling outfits, so this vision instantly clicked for me, even though it was only a piece of the bigger picture. Within the same year, my best friend and brother, David Busby, approached me about an opportunity to get into film production. We ended up partnering with another brother in Kingdom Jones to create “Iconicxdesign,” and since then had the opportunity to work on projects with the NFL Network for the 2018 Draft, restaurant commercials with Uncle Julio’s, and marketing campaigns for Intuit turbo tax sales and so much more. And this is where the story begins.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Growing up in a spiritually rooted family, I was blessed to have parents that persistently encouraged us to have a relationship with Jesus Christ. But growing up in a Christian home didn’t stop the temptations from coming. From the age of 15, I developed a strong addiction to marijuana, pills, and alcohol— an addiction that took a toll on my life for over a decade. I lost relationships, business opportunities, a degree, and so much more.
In 2023, I had to battle with myself for my life. I knew I needed a change, or else I was going to continue to suffer. I started by making small changes. I found my now church home, Embassy City, where I’m welcomed every week with open, loving arms. This community encouraged and inspired me to walk in my faith boldly.
At the start of 2024, I reestablished my personal relationship with Jesus Christ and rededicated my life to Him. I can now, so I’m drug and alcohol-free and living the life He created me to live. Doors are continually opening, and blessings are rolling in at a rate only God is capable of bringing. My brand will officially be launching its first szn this year. Thank you, Jesus, for I am Born Again. Amen.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
