Rising Stars: Meet Frabina Edwin of Dallas-Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Frabina Edwin.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am currently in my final year of college pursuing a Computer Science degree with a concentration in Cybersecurity. Additionally, I am minoring in STEM Education and pursuing certifications on the side. Throughout my academic career, I have been involved in building communities that support my peers on campus. I currently serve as President of the Google Developer Student Club, where I help students break into technology through technical workshops, collaborative projects, and mentorship opportunities.

My passion for education goes beyond the classroom. Outside of my studies, I work with students from Montessori through 8th grade, introducing them to STEM concepts at an early age and helping them build confidence in problem-solving and technology. I am driven by the belief that education creates opportunities and empowers future generations to shape the world around them. My favorite quote is, “Be the change you wish to see in the world,” and I wholeheartedly try to live by that.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was hardly a smooth road at the beginning. Moving to a new place where I knew nobody was isolating, and for a long time I struggled to find a sense of belonging and purpose. Looking back, what made the biggest difference were the people who took the time to support, guide, and encourage me when I needed it most. Their impact inspired me to become more involved in my community and pursue teaching, so that I could help people feel less isolated in a new environment.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
For years, I have worked to help students with learning disabilities gain confidence in their ability to learn and succeed. One of the most rewarding parts of my job is watching students overcome their doubts, there is something about seeing someones brain click that brings me so much pride in my work. While my academic focus is cybersecurity, my passion is rooted in education and mentorship. I value being able to create supportive learning environments where students are comfortable to think outside the box and connect with content on a more personal level.

I am most proud of the impact I have made in my communities. Success is not measured by grades but found in the quiet moments when students accomplish something that they thought was hard or impossible. I believe what sets me apart is my love for education, allowing me to not only understand difficult topics but also make them less scary for others.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My best friend Brenda deserves tons of credit for the person I am today. Through all my challenges, setbacks, and moments of uncertainty, she has been my biggest cheerleader and strongest source of encouragement. Having someone who wholeheartedly believes in the difference you can make is so crucial. Her support, accountability, and friendship have helped me grow a lot as a person.

While mentors and peers have played an important role in my life, my best friend has been one of the most supportive people in it, helping me stay grounded and motivated. I don’t think I would be where I am today without the people who believed in me and backed me up.
