Rising Stars: Meet J.R. Bradford of Dallas-Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to J.R. Bradford.

J.R., we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It all started in Fort Worth, Tx. The goal was to become a late night talk show host. Arsenio Hall is who I wanted to be(laughing). My mentor told me that the best way to obtain that goal was to study the craft of Acting before I could jump on TV and interview people. So, I did a few high school plays at O.D. Wyatt High School and made my acting debut in 2004 in Tiffany Redwine’s play “Tears I’ve Cried”. I found myself hosting a TV show on CCT 28 called “Posted Up With J.R.B.” I also worked out a deal to host a TV show called “Star Quality TV” where I was able to interview some of my favorite artists. In 2007, I was afforded the opportunity to host “Cole-Melodie Radio” in a building that was connected to a recording studio. I was able to break a lot of artist’s records in that building and made a name for myself.
In October of 2007, I enrolled into Acting school and followed up with film school after that. It’s been an endless ride since then.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey has been a challenge but if I can be completely honest…all of them were invited struggles. I’ve had plenty of support from family and friends but I never wanted to abuse it. There were times when I would take shows that didn’t pay at all. Probably more than I should have. However, each of those opportunities turned it amazing experiences that gave me some new to add to my toolkit.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a professional Actor, filmmaker, unit publicist and radio artist based in the Dallas/Fort Worth market.
I am most proud of the fact that I am the first person to receive and Acting degree and Motion Picture Production degree from KD Conservatory of Film & Dramatic Arts. What sets me apart is that 90% of my career was built without any representation. I negotiated my own contracts for every movie, tv show, and book narration that I’ve done. That wasn’t a decision that I made out of pride. I went in that direction because agents wouldn’t sign me because they didn’t know what to do with me. That forced me to use my knowledge and education about the business after graduating from Acting school and film school. I took advantage of the opportunity.
