Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Stewart.
Hi Jasmine, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My love for DJing really started with my love for music. Long before I ever touched a controller, I was always the person in charge of the music at college get-togethers, house parties, and kickbacks. I’ve always loved discovering music, building playlists, and curating an atmosphere that brings people together. My passion for music actually began with dance. I’ve been dancing since I was 14 years old and continued through high school, college, and into adulthood, so music has always been a huge part of who I am.
In 2024, I experienced some health issues that forced me to step away from dancing for an extended period of time. I needed another creative outlet, so I downloaded a DJ app on my phone and started teaching myself how to mix and blend songs. I immediately fell in love with the craft. That passion led me to buy my first controller, a DDJ-200. While it was an entry-level controller, it gave me everything I needed to learn the fundamentals, and I spent countless hours practicing every chance I got.
I started making mixes for my dance friends for their dance classes, I would DJ for my friends at small get-togethers to practice in front of people and get their opinions on mashups and was getting some really good encouragement and feedback! Which then led me to getting my first paid DJ gig at Knockouts Sports Bar in Forth Worth as a fill in for a resident DJ there! After only 5 MONTHS! The imposter syndrome was REAL lol
All in all DJing found me during a season when I needed it most, and it has become another way for me to express myself and create unforgettable experiences through music.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. The biggest challenge I’ve faced hasn’t been learning the technical side of DJing, it has been overcoming imposter syndrome! Everything happened so much faster than I expected. I only expected this to be a hobby! Within about five months of buying my first controller, I landed my first gig and found myself DJing at a bar on a DDJ-200. It all felt surreal, and for a while, it was hard to fully believe that I was actually doing what I had dreamed about.
I had to intentionally work on believing in myself and owning the title of “DJ.” My faith played a huge role during that time. I spent a lot of time praying, talking to God, and reminding myself that opportunities don’t happen by accident. I also had an incredible support system that encouraged me when I doubted myself. Over time, I realized that being nervous didn’t mean I wasn’t qualified, it meant I cared deeply about my craft. Looking back, overcoming that imposter syndrome has been one of the biggest milestones in my journey, and it has taught me to trust both my preparation and the opportunities that come my way.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Professionally, I work as IT support for a healthcare company, where I assist nurses, physicians, healthcare professionals, and corporate employees with hardware, software, and technical issues that help keep their work running smoothly. I’ve been in customer service since I was 16 years old, so helping people has always come naturally to me. Last year, I earned my first entry-level Help Desk role, and it’s been a great opportunity to grow my technical skills while continuing to serve others in a meaningful way.
One thing I’m most proud of is my ability to stay calm under pressure and solve problems while making people feel supported. Whether I’m troubleshooting a technical issue or reading the energy of a room while DJing, both roles require patience, communication, and the ability to adapt in the moment.
What sets me apart is that I bring both a technical mindset and a creative mindset to everything I do. My full-time career provides stability and has taught me discipline, while the flexibility of working from home allows me to continue investing in my passion for DJing. I love having a career where I can help people every day while also pursuing my creative side through music.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is living a life with purpose and being present for the people I care about. My faith is the foundation of that. Spending time with God each day helps keep me grounded and reminds me to lead with gratitude, humility, and intention. Along with that, I value my health and the health of my loved ones because I’ve learned firsthand how quickly life can change and how important it is to take care of ourselves both mentally and physically.
Creativity is another thing that means a lot to me. Dance has been a part of my life since I was 14, and when I wasn’t able to dance because of health challenges, DJing became another way for me to express myself. It reminded me that music has the power to connect people, create memories, and bring joy, even during difficult seasons.
That’s one of the reasons I love DJing so much. It’s more than playing songs, it’s creating an experience where people can let go, celebrate, and simply enjoy the moment. Whether someone is dancing with friends, celebrating a milestone, or just having a great night out, knowing I played a small part in creating that feeling is incredibly rewarding. At the end of the day, what matters most to me is making a positive impact, whether that’s through serving people in my career, showing up for the people I love, or bringing people together through music.
