Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonny Gallegos.
Jonny, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Music has always been a big part of my life and I knew from an early age it was what I wanted to do as a career. I was influenced early on by the sounds of The All-American Rejects, Fall Out Boy, and Relient K. I had always admired that these bands represented their hometown and that their songs were fun and energetic but meaningful.
The JNNY Project hail proudly from Dallas! We’ve been truly thankful for past opportunities to open for staples of the alternative music scene, such as We The Kings and Emarosa, both held at Trees in Deep Ellum. We’ve also been jumping in with our own music releases on many streaming platforms, such as Spotify and Apple Music. Additionally, we’ve been showcasing our energy on stage at the revered Emo Nite, hosted by Third String Productions, a fellow Dallas-based entity known for curating the hottest parties in town. It’s all about representing our hometown while making memorable moves in the pop-punk music scene.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Navigating the music industry is anything but easy. One of the biggest hurdles we’ve encountered is the ever-evolving landscape of social media. Constant changes in algorithms, marketing strategies, and content creation present an ongoing challenge, especially given the rapidly shifting trends within the music industry. Despite the obstacles, tackling these dynamics has proven both engaging and rewarding as we strive to stay ahead of the curve.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
It has always been fun to be a sort of ‘Swiss Army knife’ when it comes to music, as I love to sing, write, and play guitar. I feel blessed to have a great team supporting me behind the scenes when it comes to writing, producing, and playing shows. We are most proud of being a part of a music scene we have always admired, and we are now excited to contribute to it and set the standard of what it means to be a Dallas artist. At the heart of The JNNY Project, we are trying to be representative and inclusive with a strong emphasis on cultivating a brand centered around integrity and kindness.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The music industry is one that is constantly changing and innovating. Music and technology go hand in hand, and we want to create an ‘experience’ rather than just a show. As technology improves and immersive experiences become more accessible, live performances may evolve to incorporate elements such as interactive visuals, augmented reality, and virtual concerts, enhancing the overall fan experience. Even as a local but growing band, we have already used curated opening videos and themes as a part of brand and artist representation, which we found very successful with our audience. I feel that the future of pop-punk music is likely to be shaped by a combination of artistic innovation, emotional transparency, social dynamics, and cultural shifts. Because of this, I have no doubt that pop-punk will remain a vibrant and influential genre for years to come!
